Hello
Have not posted much, but read a lot and learn even more, but since we are going to be ready to go in about a month I now have a question. We have sprint for our cell and have a coverage map. They have an air card you can buy and connect to the internet with and again we have that map but what about satellite internet? We have been checking into satellite TV with Hughes but were told by someone else that as long as we are on the road, satellite internet with Hughes or any other company may be illegal; something about adjusting the reciever?

Laura, Satellite Internet Service is different than what DirecTV is offering.. when I checked into using it .. for INTERNET traveling.. I was told I would be blocked out.. so I checked into this service as it's for just INTERNET connections while in the RV and traveling.. www.skycasters.com/mobile-internet-mobile-satellite-internet/index.html...
I know people will tell you that it doesn't matter..but it does.. I'm sure those that have it will explain more.. I chose to go with an Air Card by Verizon.. as it had the most coverage area of all what was offered.. I've only had a few places where I couldn't get service but most of all I've always connected.. where you get cell service you get air card service..sometimes even broadband....
I would suggest you check prices.. as right now I think the Satellite service is just a bit too costly, for me to justify the usage..
For my DirecTV that I use.. I have the New York, LA connection.. so I travel all over and don't have a problem with any channels ..including ABC, NBC, CBS..
I had to go with that because my DH is at home while I'm traveling.. other wise I could have just carried the boxes..without local channels for on the road..but when I'm not in the rig, I suspend my service in the rig.. so that's not a big deal.. however my air card is always on.. that is something you have to think about.....I'm sure others that have this service can tell you more..Talk with Full timers that do use the INTERNET connections.. and check out that company for the Dish and Service they can give you prices ... Laura, Also check out www.MotoSat.com and see what they have to offer.. you might also do a Google search by putting in RV internet Service... There are a few out there.. compare prices...

It is from the RV America Full-timing Forum. It is about Internet by Satellite...Pay attention to what a poster by the name of John Veach says about all the suppliers of Satellite Interent..John knows RV's, knows full-timing and used to sell and install Internet Satellite..
He has it and uses it daily!! It is only $60 a month. His is a little more as he got an addition.
Here is what he says and I quote John Veach:
Satellite costs are not as high as quoted. You can get Direcway or Starband for about $60 a month. The initial cost will be around $1500. If you buy a DW system for your home and then move it, your costs will be about $600 up front with the same $60 a month fee.
MotoSat is nothing but DW with an automatic dish. The monthly fee can be a bit higher because MotoSat wants you to use the business version of DWs software.
It really isn't necessary.
A few years ago, I installed DW systems for an RV business out of Arizona, then I started my own DW business for fixed locations in FL. I toted my DW dishes all over the country on a tripod for three or four years. Last fall, I violated my own vows and purchased a MotoSat. Now we just push a button and the dish deploys, finds the satellite and we are up and running. I kept my DW ISP at $59.95 a month and then upgraded to a DW7000 interface and shelled out an extra $10 a month to get a 1mb download speed.
My system cost me $4500 and I am now paying $69.95 a month. I don't worry about whether my cellular provider has data coverage wherever I am. My only concern is that I am not parked under a tree that blocks my access to the satellite which is basically south of me wherever I am.
I am good from Southern Canada to most of Mexico and East coast to west coast.
Starband licenses its RV folks to move, DW does not (except for MotoSat) but thousands of folks move them anyway.

Joella, thanks for posting that - as I will look carefully at it also - I had been told I wouldn't find it for under $2500 or more up front and $99 a month after - these prices and I might have done it before taking off this summer -

Glad to help, Beth.... I am looking at it too..In fact, I looked up Direcway (which is now HughesNet) the other day, and I think for a short time, you could have the antenna for the house installed for $599 fee, with $200 rebate, making it a total of $399 for the antenna and installation, with a monthly fee of $59.99. In my opinion, that is a bargain for 24/7 on all the time satellite Internet service... AND your phone line is still free for use.
I paid $700. for a Broadband tower and $50 monthly for service that was NOT good. They knew our house location was iffy...so said they'd try and if it didn't work, they'd come take down the tower and refund our money. And they did, plus returned the $50 monthly for four months I had stuck it out... That extra $200 bucks returned surprised me..
Now, I KNOW the automatic Satellite Dish atop my RV would be more...but that is what I would want..
I'm working on it. If I could transfer the service from home to RV, and afford TWO antennas...a home type and the automatic roof RV one...I'd be ordering tomorrow...BUT..I have to check out the Automatic antenna prices..

I Have both Hughes Satellite for the internet, paid $1,400 for it and monthly payments are $60 and DirectTV dish ( $80.99). I get the Northwest LA channels and New York and If I am within 300 miles of the Pacific Northwest I pick up the Seattle stations that I paid extra for. On the DirecTV I had to sign a waiver to get both East coast and West coast channels. They know I am a Full-timer.
Hughes is much faster than our air card, especially when I am posting photos on my website.
People are starting to finally catch onto how many people are out there on the road with their RV's and changing the rules to internet and TV access.

Jenny, I think that's a normal procedure with that Wavier.. I had to sign one also.. as I have a separate account for the motorhome..being my DH is still at home base when I traveled....As for the INTERNET service..those Dishes were a tad bit high when I priced it..but like everything else they will come down.. But boy it's worth getting the automatic satellite..it was a pain in the butt cranky that sucker up and finding the location..sometimes it was a hair off..and you had to have that signal meter on finding it.. mute button worked great.. and me being short..it sure was an experience.... when I would go up North I'd use the tripod as on my rig one couldn't get thought he trees.. so I'd have this long wire and out there trying to attempt to find an openning..LOL... Air cards are not always fast..unless I'm in a broad band area and boy that baby flies....but you know being by yourself.. I considered all these things.... I'm sure when I get a newer rig..and if the price drops I'll go that route..right now I have another year on contract with air card..and it's simple too LOL..

Hi Jenny! I figured you'd soon be on to post and tell us the real scoop as to how your dishes work!! I do think that is a good price for GREAT service!! Happy for you that you have it all!! We do like our "toys"!!!
I am still wanting Satellite Internet, but I'm so tight...and I think "My ISP is good, always here, dependable, tho very slow with my old phone lines...but do I want to go from $10 monthly to $60"!!?? Just look how many cold beers I could buy for that $50 difference!!! Grin!!!

I contacted who you got yours from - and only way to get it would be to order Hughes for my home (which I won't see again for months) - then he'd send me the mobile part.
I don't care - at least at the moment - about the tv part - just would love the internet.
If anyone knows a way around my having to have Hughes set up at my home first, please let me know! I'm still looking for a possible place up here that would install it.
