Boy, am I out of it LOL - I didn't know Angelina had a baby - didn't have a clue until reading it here who she's with - don't read any of the gossip mags, or pay any attn to any of that - except when it gets right in my face - but don't read that section of the newspaper and now, am basically without tv. I'm lucky when I watch a movie these days to know who's in it!
But, I must admit, the stories really haven't changed that much over the years - just that we now know all about them.
Smiling is contagious - try it!

I too get so frustrated with the media these days. I served my country proudly for 12 years (Navy) and would've done the whole 20 for retirement until my daughter came into the picture. Being home with my daughter instead of going out to sea was pretty important, especially as a sinlge Mom. Now she'll be graduating on 1 June. Where does the time go. My immediate family members and those way back in the family tree have served our country on land, under the water (submarines), surface combatants and in the air. I still get choked up with seeing our red white and blue and accompanying anthem; and even the pledge of alegance I proudly get to say when I attend the Lakeside Farms Elementary school Academic Achievement Awards. (Our command tutors Math/English for that school. It's referred to as Adopt-A-School. A great cause). I have the distinct pleasure of working at a military command on 32nd Street Naval base in San Diego. Soooo I still have my ties and loyalty to the military. It sickens me to read, hear, and watch on TV the senseless garbage that really matters not. What ever happened to the support and concern of our troops? A memorial service at the infamous Mount Soledad cross that overlooks San Diego is constantly under a seige of Atheists to have it removed. WHY??? When saying the pledge of alegence or hearing the national anthem I lovingly/proudly cover my heart. People stare sometimes like What the heck are you doing...again I ask WHY??? I for one will forever be greatful for what those that have gone before me and sacrificed, I'll continue to try and instill in my own family that sense of pride in country, and I'm certainly proud to read there are others that hold that pride in their hearts as well. Thank you all.

Donna, I too am surprised at the hype of the "Stars" on how important their issues are..but I guess that is what sells to people.. ..
My family and I were not born in these United States .. and we came over during war time..so if you can imagine.. How proud my family and I were when we became citizens.... To come to a country of Freedom was a joy..my parents left a fascist dictatorship.. to be in a safe place.. 2 of my brothers were thrown into a prison camp.. so, for me today to see how natural born citizens can just not give the importance to this country and for what she stands for.. I just have to shake my head..
How proud you are Donna.. and how proud we are of you as well..
I give thanks everyday..to be an American Citizen.. I only just recently also got dual citizenship..back to my homeland as well..as we still have property.. my 2 older brothers never left Italy..but recently came to America to visit the rest of the family.. We have gone back several times..and yes, it does feel good to touch the soil you were born on..but my heart belongs to America..and to all that have fought and died for our freedom..and those that are continuing on....
God Bless Everyone !

Barbzee you have so much to be proud of. I applaud you and your family for doing things the right way. And Yes, so many take our citizenship for granted. Living in CA now and dealing with the influx of illegal immagrants is a constant. I have no issues with someone trying to make a better way for themselves and their family, just do it the right way. I do have issues when my children are forced to learn Spanish in High School so they can graduate and get a job, or see everything written/typed in both English and Spanish. Why don't they print stuff out in Chinese, French, German, and Italian to be fair??? Why shouldn't those wanting to come and be a part of this great country learn English? Why is it the other way around? If some are trying so hard to sneak across the border into this country illegally, then why are they demonstrating by burning the U.S. flag, waving the Mexican flag and chanting slangs toward the U.S.? The very country that is feeding/housing/educating them? If Mexico is such a Great country...Why are they risking capture, deportation, and sometimes life to come here? Was listening to Rick Roberts and a caller chimed in that he overheard people talking in a medical waiting room. They were saying it didn't make sense to become legal U.S. citizens. Medical is taken care of...if you're not married and have a baby, it is paid for and the child is an automatic U.S. born citizen...education is free, housing reduced, some work and pay no taxes, and he went on and on and on. It's just so sad how things are going. I have no faith in our current leadership and pray each day for the brave men and women fighting for our freedoms and the liberation of a country not our own. I certainly do not care about Tom Cruz's weird religion and quirks regarding his bride and baby, nor Brad Pitt and Angelina going to Africa to have their child so it has dual citizenship, or if it's politically correct to protray our soldiers in a positive tone for once in all the good they have accomplished over in Iraq instead of some Marines going haywire and killing innocent people. Yes, it was a terrible thing, but all we are doing is throwing fuel on an already explosive flame. Why would the media want to enrage an already unstable people and insight more killing of our troops. War is not and never has been a pleasant thing. Only difference from then and now...our Movie stars, media, and country were behind our soldiers and didn't pray on rating catching gruesome events hightening our troops as targets. We protected them. We portrayed them in movies as our heroes... Okay...I'll get off my soapbox now...sorry for going on and on. But what can you do? I am happy there are still people, such as yourself that hold true to the morales, values, and pride instilled upon us by our parents and grandparents. God Bless you.
I sincerely hope I did not offend anyone herein. I know... my Mom told me never get into discussions of Politics/Money or Religion. If I did...I sincerely apologize as it was not my intent.

What I cannot understand is how the standards for immigration have fallen by the wayside. When we came in to this country our Port of Entry was New York in 1967. On going through immigration we were handed a card to read aloud. The man was very embarressed. He said I know you speak English - we were from Gt. Britain - but I have to ask you to read this. We all had to read aloud to prove we knew English. Now our whole country has had to accomodate people with another language. If I was to go to another country I would expect to have to learn that language and I'd be proud to if that was where I wanted to make my home. How did we get in this mess?

Sparkle you are so right on. If, when I go get my nails done, a Vietnemese woman is studying diligently with a customer to pass the citizenship exam and speaking in broken English, but at least speaking it, then why can't the Spanish speaking do so as well? They are very intelligent people. They are very hard working and family oriented. Why should I and my family have to learn to speak Spanish??? We are in the United States of America!!! How did we get in this mess????? Sparkle when you get the answer to that one I hope you share. ;) I think the word begins with the letter P :p

For sure. I had a cousin that grew up in Canada and as a young adult, he decided to come to the USA to join the rest of his relatives. That was some 50 years ago. He had to deposit a $1,ooo.oo which they kept for a number of years. This was to prove he could support himself and not require any financial assistance. He had to do the same thing when he brought his fiancee into our Great Country.NO FREEBE HERE It work for them.
So why freebies for all other nations.
And a lot of other families only the one that was old enough to acquire jobs came over, and in time sponcered a younger member of the family. Again a sponcer was liable to support that person. Today a sponcer is a joke. As they sponcer and then place that person in the public assistance. And one guest who pays.humb bug

Have to join in
Living in Florida over the past several years I gradually felt like I was living in Cuba. I admire the Cuban people. They have stong family values and a good work ethic. However, they are proud of their heritage and language and very loyal to Cuba!! Very nationalistic. Miami really is Not an American city any longer. It is beautiful but even the hospitals have the signs in Spanish!
One by one each big grocery stores (Publix, Winn Dixie)in West Palm were taken over. Eventually, you heard nothing but Spanish. All employees, check=out people spoke Spanish and made NO attempt to accomodate an obvious English speaking people.
My neighborhood in Fl is 90% Spanish. They take good care of their properties and make good neighbors but guess who doesn't fit in. Can't communicate with them. It was really upsetting for the first couple years. I eventually got used to it but really felt like I was living in their country or that they just moved their country here. Very little effort to Americanize. In thinking about it I guess my only gripe was the language.
