Hi All my name is Desaree and I've been lurking here for about a month now. I love this board and you ladies sound so wonderful. Ive read about 5 pages of topics and posts now.LOL I have a dream and I would like to share in order to get opinons from you gals. I'm 33 and my dh is 28. Yes I know thats young but I've been going from place to place sense I was 13. The longest I've ever spent in one location was 8 years in Montreal Canada. I'm born in Pittsburgh, PA and I've enjoyed camping sense I can remember. I spent 7 months in upstate NY in a popup and beside that most of my time tent camping. We managed to save a bit of money and want to see if it is feasable to start our dream yet. so here it is! I want to have a traveling job. The only one I can think of is vending work. What I mean by this is the trailors you see at fairs and things of that nature that sell food. BBQ, or Gyros or cotton candy. SOmething in that general area. My hubby does construction and has been framing for 9 years. We live in Jacksonville Florida now and there is lots of work. Do you ladies have any idea what would be the best way for us to start. Should we buy a van and tent camp until we can afford more.. Just any ideas would be great because I'm stuck now. Not sure what step to take to get closer to my goal. Is there work in disaster areas that we may be able to find? I know my post is all over the place but I think the more I can get out the more info I can put in..LOL I've also read a bit about this work camping and wonder where and how to get started in that area. I'd like to thank You all in advance for any advice.. Thanks so much Desaree :)Des email Smiles Des

When i got my first issue of Workamper News I was surprised at the variety of jobs. In fact I wish I had known about this when my husband was still alive. As a new subscriber I can get you a free copy if you Private Message me with your address. I'd try and avoid tent camping. You want somthing with solid walls. A lot of the jobs want a photo of your rig. 1984 Class A Allegro Bogie the Pit (rescued) Practise random acts of kindness.

Hey Des, Welcome to this great Forum..and it's so wonderful that you've been following our trails of stories.. a great group of Gals..LOL I have to say, I'd have to have some kind of walls also for camping..I've seen some of the pop ups and they are really nice..and if you are staying in the Florida area..for starting off they would do well as well as a small TT..I myself didn't do well in Tents and Sleeping Bags..(just recently had a refresh on the sleeping bag on the floor ouch). There are a lot of construction jobs for sure in Florida.. and yes, even a lot of concession jobs due to a lot of Dog Shows too..you are both young and have so much ahead of you both.. I often thought aah if only I could turn the clock back.. I'd work across the USA ...seeing everything I could..and there are a lot of great Temp services as well..to hook up with ..and you don't have children yet.. so it's just you and hubby.. how wonderful and exciting for the traveling part.. The Work Kamps are great too for paying for your site and utilities..I don't know if they include propane..never having done any of them.. but I do know from several people I've met..all over.. a lot really enjoy it.. and does take a load off as they haven't that cost to worry about.. but they also have other income besides the work kamp.. like SS..and pensions.. I'm sure as you do your search out there and check all other areas too..you'll make your decisions.. It is a wonderful lifestyle and always something going on..new places new people..

Hi and Welcome!
It sounds like you've got a great plan. Something you need to consider is how long you want to be in different areas - some workamp positions will require a longer stay. But you can certainly do it if you have the will and the skills. I'm supporting part of my travel with an internet business and some of the times (like this summer) I'm workamping just for my site - to support my gallivanting around the NE on some of the other days without as big of a bill for cg's. So there are lots of options. Your DH could probably workamp at cg's for your site and pay with his skills - or off site also.
If it's your dream - go for it. I also suggest at least a pop-up - I wouldn't want to try to workamp with a tent. Smiling is contagious - try it!

Hi all, I tell ya I'm going to need all the advice I can get at this point. I No matter what am getting a camper nothing nice as it's gonna have to cost cheap but start small and work up. I was thinking I could sign on for the work kamp and DH can do construction in the area. If there are areas that I cant work kamp I'm sure I can get a job at a store or waitress or I'd even consider fast food for temp work. I wanna go west haven't been there yet... I've been all over the east coast. I have to see the center and west of the USA. We are starting now at home to live with Just what we have to have to get ourselves a little use to the transition. We've never had much money and are paycheck to paycheck lives. So we arent used to nothing fancy! I cannot thank yall enough for all your help I will defiantly be spending at minimum 1-2 hours a day getting my plan down pat. I think you are right we need at least a popup.. Dont laugh but when I spent the time in upstate NY in a pop up it was a 1972 coleman used 2 times and I only paid 500$$.. It was in Perfect shape! I am hoping and praying I can find a deal simular to that to start.. I want to do this sooner then later cause you just never know. I'm a widow one time all ready and only 33 that's what has made this an easy decision to take a chance! Talk to yall soon! Desaree' and DH kev!! ;p Smiles Des

Hello Ladies,
My name is Theresa and I've also been looking around, reading and learing from all of you for a while now. I would like to join Desaree in introducing myself.

I'm about to retire and my husband and I want to get out more now that the kids are gone. I want to thank you all for sharing your stories and travels. I'm learning so much from you already!
All my best, Theresa
