Hi - I'm back on after not having internet for awhile. Sounds like you are far overqualified for the job, Kalaki. As far as a contract - it costs money to legally pursue if you break your contract. Unlikely Any lawyer would take a case if his/her fee wasn't sufficient to cover his expensive work so I don't think there is a worry of cg coming after you if you don't find things as you thought they would be and leave.
Having it in writing works both ways. It makes it real clear to both sides what the agreement is and answers any questions in advance if detailed enough. It also makes it real clear what responsibilites were that you signed on for so if you don't meet your end of agreement you have it in black and white.:(
Trusting agreement is best, I think, if possible. If I was really unhappy about a situation for whatever reason, I would leave :)

Usually when I camp in one of those parks it's $5 a night ( yearly dues are $500.00) We figured out it would be $155.00 ( 31 days). If you were a member worker they charged you "fair market value"...which meant $502.00 a month. It was outrageous!! Because Dan was working at the time it put us in a higher tax bracket and we had to pay more in taxes so it was a no win situation for us plus the park was a total Zoo and alot of members breaking the rules. Felt like I had a target on the back of my shirt. One day I put on a clown costume and puttered around the campground. Someone asked why I was dressed like a clown and so I said " Well everyone thinks the Rangers are a bunch of clowns so we changed our dress code" I got my point across in a funny way.
When I handed my check back they wanted me to pay for my social security. It all boils down to IRS stepping in but still it was not a win situation for me and I let the manager know it wasn't fair but they are still doing it. You're right make sure you know everything in advance and also talk to other workampers so you know what to expect! Lesson learned here.

Seeya girl - I love the clown costume to make your point. At least you kept your sense of humor about an incredibly bad situation. :)

State Parks are actually considered volunteering - not workamping - and taxwise there is a difference. That said, fortunately, most cg's don't follow the letter of the law and pay you then make you return it - but that is the correct way to do it.
Again, the state and federal parks are considering you a volunteer - and it falls in a different category for them.
That said, I could be at a fancy park this summer with lots of amenities I don't have here - that would have had my wifi and pools, etc - but I wanted this type of atmosphere - and my job is working out great. Guess what? I'm going to be helping re-do parts of their website. And there is another website unrelated to the campground that I will be able to help on also. I love working on websites - so this will be fun.
Smiling is contagious - try it!

Ah, Beth...how great you'll be doing some work on web sites, which you enjoy!! Always nice to be able to work with things we do have an interest in, and liking for.
It is good you found a campground that is JUST like you like it.. It does have YOUR kind of amenities!! Right? Enjoy on..and I'll wish warmer weather for you!! Will trade you some good ole dry heat for some of your rain!!! :)
