The park that is our home base during the winter months has a very busy activities calendar. There is a paid activities director and the rest is done by park volunteers. In addition to the things already mentioned here is a sampling of those our park offers.
water volleyball
petanque - a French version of bocce ball
DJ dances with volunteer dj's
karaoke
darts
gobs of different card games
blood drive - maybe not an activity, but a good cause
costume parties
talent show
hamburger/hot dog/bratwurst lunches
all sorts of card games
book club
journaling workshop
red hat ladies
weekly golf and bowling outings
We're way to busy to get bored! Of course, this is an adult park but some of these activities could be adapted to families.

My absolute favorite is when they do some type of music or entertainment. Doesn't even have to be fancy. 2nd favorite are ice cream socials - then pot luck dinners. I like the socializing aspect the most.
I'm not into the classes or bingo or crafts - but know lots are.

Hi - I am staying in a cg near Philadelphia next week. They provide tours of the city for their guests. I guess it's first come, first served but it will be nice to leave the driving to someone else. So if there is a city nearby or historic area, etc.
Love idea of murder mystery
Froggi - it sounds like you would be a great Recreation Director - good ideas!!
Computer would be good and a cooking class would be great fun.
Barbizeee - you could demonstrate the chocolate, wine, expresso, delicious cake. (I went to a culinary school for a group class once and it was great fun- took two hours but we wound up with a delicious chocolate cheesecake)

At one gtg I went to, they had a White Elephant gift exchange where you brought something out of your rig you really didn't want and wrapped it up and they did the # thing where the first one picked a "gift" and the 2nd one could pick a gift or take #1's give and #1 picked another one. It is just a "fun" thing and not to be taken too seriously!!

Fernie, we did that at Christmas time 2004 in Ramona CA and I opened my present and got a little fleece blanket and everyone kept exchangeing to get my blanket! Dan's number was called last and he got my blanket back so I was a Happy Camper :)

I love the tours idea - as that's what I'll be doing anyway, and sometimes it's fun to do some of them in a group. And the dinner theatre or mystery theatre would be great.
When I was near San Francisco, I suggested the RV park I stay at should have had two tours - a day trip to SF and another day trip out to some wineries. They said they probably could make a fortune on that - cuz no one wants to drive to SF - and they were always getting them to the Ferry and giving them maps for the tour buses on the other end, etc - and all of us were going to wine country also. So, if there's anything local that most everyone wants to do - and could be done without them needing to do the driving - shoot, I would have stayed there an extra day or two!
If there's a casino nearby and you can work out shuttle arrangements a couple times a day to/from the park - that would be great also.

I stayed at a lot of KOA's across the country and a lot of them had all kinds of things going on.. In Orlando they had the shuttle that took you to Disney..but boy there were some great places for dinner theaters.. I enjoyed the King Arthur's Court too and loved the House of Blues.. great places you just have to ask.. and give them an Idea.. ..
I loved Vegas.. lots of things to do.. great places for buffets as well and parking was very very reasonable..
Loved the tours of the wine countries.. it was always packed with people and some even had a luncheon which was nice..
I watch the Discovery Channel gave me lots of ideas of places to see ..and when I'm going to go some place I check and see what's in that area.. I found the Eureka Springs in Arkansas.. neat place..
God Bless

We are "almost new RVers". Took our first one week practice run last week. Set up and broke down 4 times to get the practice. (my hubby is not the mechanical type although he has researched it to death. and I am amazingly nervous about this whole full time thing. But after one week I am over being sick to my stomach.
we both turn 65 this year so this is the time.
An info class for newbys would be good. Any longtimers could help out new and nervous rvers. We have found question and answer sessions very helpful so far.
One other thing is anyone familiar with the Walmart gift card thing where you use the card and save 3 cents per gallon?
Thanks for everyones helpful input.

You can do that in some states with Wal-mart - I know TX is one - but not in others, unfortunately. When I was in TX, I knew I needed about $75 worth of gas, so went in the store, bought a $100 gift card for $100 - then went and filled my tank. Yep, got the 3 cents/gallon discount just for using the card. I spent 80 some dollars. Then I went back into Wal-mart (where I knew I needed to buy some things) and spent 20 something - using up the card. I didn't want any left over. Had I been not needing other items, I would have only bought $75 gift card. I'm not sure how they would have worked the discount.
Welcome to the forum and ask whatever else you'd like to know. I'm sure someone will have the answer.
