Kerry, I run my generator for long periods of time.. due to the fact that at dog shows we don't always have Electric and when it's hot.. the dogs have to be cool..soooooooo on it runs.. I do stop it at night time if now I say if it's not a muggy hot night too.. but when I stop it.. I also let the genny cool and check the oil.. we all have extra oil on board.. this is a normal thing for "us dog show people" as a rule the generator burns about a gallon of gas and hour that's kind of the going rule on gas engines ..so if you need to run it by all means.. .but also remember when you stop to fill up with gas shut it off and also frig if it's on propane.... I service my generator on the hours I use also change filters too.. I understand some peoples fears of running things..but actually if your generator is serviced and all checked out.. it doesn't do it any harm.. that's what they were built for..!
Hey I'm glad you enjoyed that Chicken.. and great the kids did too... I'm always happy I can share good tips and good food with everyone.. It's like you are all eating in my house..LOL

Generators are designed for continuous service, so run it as long as you want, BUT they need a load on them, so don't just run it without using it for something. Such as your crockpot! That's not much of a load, so every once in a while, run an appliance that will put a heavy load on it, such as AC or microwave. Keep track of hours it's run if you don't have an hourmeter on it, and keep the service up on it. We used to run even the small ones at work for a week or more at a time if we needed a pump or air compressor for that long. No problem.

Crockpots that operate from 12V outlet are available at Camping World. There's also many other appliances (hair dryers, frying pans, etc) that operate from 12V available at some truck stop shops for truckers. You can operate the 12V from your RV deep cycle batteries or from your cigarette lighter in vehicle while driving. These are also good to have if you do any dry camping like at a rally or escapade or boondocking.
Also, would someone please explain the topic icons available to use when replying? and how to use them. ....thanks.

One of the tips I got about generators was when you fire it up, let it run for a couple of minutes and add your appliances slowly, as in airconditioner on low first, then medium, then high, and this was even more important, when getting ready to shut it down, switch off the appliances you are running. Then let the generator run for five minutes before turning it off too. Something about this lets it cool down.

They "mean nothing" actually...other than you know what thumbs up and thumbs down mean... and questions... they are just an attention getter to your posting..like something extra would be on a want ad in the newspaper..Just something to play with..
Wishing a good day to everyone!
