Dottie, Maybe space your driving time out.. pull over and relax while the traffic times are heavy.. I do that even now if I'm going through certain areas.. I make my lunch and just let the critters out of their crates to move around .. Like for me I have to come through Baltimore and Washington DC belt ways and they are like mad house.. I also prefer to take interstate as with me... I like being able to pull in rest stops for my darlings.. and those flying J's..
I can relate to the anxious feeling of wanting to see your Momma... I was always in a rush too..:)
You're doing great... getting out on the road was the Big Thing.. ...
God Bless

Thanks for the heads-up about LA; I'll do my best to skirt it. Have to study the map today so I'll have a plan for tomorrow when I hit the road again.
Barbzee, this next round of a few days on the road, I'm finally going to give a Flying J a try. I stare hard at them as I pass them on the freeway now, so it's time to just dive in there!
Thanks, Marslet, for the advice about getting past the NO area. I'm not looking forward to going through there. Makes me sad to think about it, much less see it. I used to teach, too, first at university (experimental psychology, statistics), then substitute taught for a while, too. Loved higher level kids, couldn't handle the hormone-charged pre and early teens, though. I've enjoyed doing volunteer teaching here and there since then (French, ceramics, that sort of thing).
My, I do ramble. I think being alone with two dogs that just aren't talking is getting to me a bit! Can't wait to see my family in Florida!

Marslet, I'll be heading your way in Dec. Going to Prairieville for Christmas with my Dad & Step-Mom this year.Love it there!
Hate freeways and only use them if I HAVE to, mostly go the Red roads traveling.
Hey Sharon guess what followed us...yep the rain! AZ hasn't had any for 143 days so I guess I'll let them have it.
24K job was pricey! We'll head to Tucson tomorrow.Weather looks better on Monday for getting all set up for the Life On Wheels there at the Pima College. Love my new satellite dish for the internet, boy it is faster!
Seeya down the road, Jenny

Hi,
If you haven't been to Prairieville in a few years, prepare yourself for a shock. Half of Baton Rouge lives out there now. You won't recognize the place. Again, just plan for some awful traffic on Airline Highway going toward Prairieville. I know the people out that way love all the strip malls and large stores that have built up all around the road.
Be safe on your trip.
Sincerely yours, Marslet
Happy camping,
Marslet

Indeeda I'm very new to RVing and still having a little trouble getting my brain around the fact I"M Doing This!!! Glad to see I'm not alone. Learn something from each post and the weather consideration is a good one.
Enjoy your visit with your Momma - you will have a great time. Florida has been beautiful lately so you should have good weather here.
Seeya gal - how did you connect a satellite for the internet - what program do you have? I have a satelllite for TV. Is that what you connect to?

SeeYa girl is in Phoenix, fixing to "work" the Life On Wheels Get Together and may be really busy for the next few days.. So, I'll tell you that you cannot access e-mail thru regular Satellite dish. I wish you could, as that is what I have. Jenny got hers installed here: http://www.businesswebsupport.com/
She loves it...I can attest to that!
She sets it up herself on it's tri-pod,
One day perhaps Santa will bring me one..I want the one that does TV AND e-mail, on the roof, automatic!! Well, shucks, while I'm wishing/dreaming may as well go all the way!! I promise, I'll be a good girl so Santa will do that!! :)
Have a great one, y'all!!

Dottie, here's a good website for you in your travel to Florida to your Mother's. It has dump sites..You can go to different websites given on this one to find ALL rest areas, whether just a picnic area or one with full facilities. It also gives Flying J locations..and no telling what else!! Hope it is a BIG help to you!!
Travel on happy and safe!
