I noticed on another thread a short comment about TP in TT's (LOL) We have never had "indoor plumbing" before..in the POP-UP we just had a porta-potty and I never put TP in it...saved the "big" jobs for the camp toilets if you know what I mean! So I don't know a whole lot about using the "ladies room" in the TT. Are you supposed to use the dissolvable specially made TP..I'm guessing manufactures would say "yes" but I would like to have some input from those of you who truly KNOW for sure!

Rivergal, I in the beginning used that "special TP" but after years of RVing.. and advise from others as well..(now after 25+years) I use Scott brand.. does the trick..Just make sure you put your solution in and water as that does the disolving..and there is pro and cons on that topic also.. Also when dumping make sure you flush a lot of water in the tanks..there are special hose connections for back flushes..but I'm sure all the other gals will give you their input.. ... I have a bottle of clorox and disposable gloves in that department for Dump days ..... Ok, I believe we also have an "Expert" who took lessons LOL.. but we've all had those experiences at the Dump ...:)

Agree on the Scott's. We use Scotts at home with our own septic system, as it dissolves in water and helps to keep those lines open as well.
On dumping days we make sure the grey tank is full of water too..that way you can dump the black tank, then dump the gray tank, thus flushing/washing out your septic hose.
I have seen people getting ready to leave the RV park, they dump...THEN they run their water hose...the very same one they supplied water to the RV , down into the sewer hose to wash it out...Can you imagine the germs they just added to their next hookup and drinking supply! Oh yecht!! This is a no-no!! Grin! Makes you want to tell them, but somehow people seem to take suggestions bad if it has the slightest tinge of criticism! I have trouble hiding the gagging as I talk so they KNOW I am being critical...Ha!!

I used to use Scott's but switched as I found other brands that seem to dissolve as well that I like better. I do stick with single ply and try not to over-use - and always remember to add some water to the tank before using again after dumping. You don't want the toilet paper to sit in the bottom with nothing to dissolve it.
Sometimes I buy the stuff to put in the tank, sometimes I don't - haven't noticed any difference, as long as I always keep water and flush it out well. I'm more likely to use a sanitizer and put water in after dumping when heading on the road to clean it all.

We like to travel to Mexico and flushing TP down the toilet is a big NO-NO, septic systems can't handle it so I have a small garbage can that has a lid in the bathroom and I put it there. Never have plug ups in our rig from too much tp trying to dissolve.

Jenny, I've done that also.. as in some areas of dog shows we had problems with dumping..and when I'm winterized (Oct) and going to shows....it sure does take the worry out of paper clogs.. When my neices
come along..I use extra large waste can LOL..
You know I've heard a lot of full timers that do it that way to be on the safe side.. only flush TP down
when it's a need too.
Gosh see how much we're learning..:)

I knew you gals would have answers. I went ahead and bought 2 pkgs of the dissolving type at the RV place but I think I'll probably use the Scott's most of the time. I think like some of you said it would just be easier to keep a covered trash can in the potty room....sounds like less trouble to me. Thanks so much for all the great responses!

LOL I couldn't help chuckling at all the conversation TP can stimuate!!! Remember back 20 years ago when we had all the colors to choose from---solids or flowered. White TP was so boring!! Now we basically get to choose from septic friendly or softer two-ply!! Oh--the goood ole days ;)

I found that the Scott's TP is harder on your butt. So to avoid TP butt we use Angel Soft. I tried the dissolve test on this and it works just like the RV Tp and Scott's.
To do this test, take a 2 qt mason jar with lids, add 1/2 to 3/4 full of water, add 1 sheet of toilet paper. Shake the mason jar and see how long it takes to dissolve the TP. I think it's suppose to take under 3 mins for shaking. It took the Angel Soft about a minute and a half.
Just my opinion though.

ALRIGHT BECKY- a gal who did the homework!! I would never thought of that but sounds like it worked and proved a point. Good to know because that TP you buy in the Camping section is HIGH $$ and of course I would prefer the softer types for my money. It is quite laffable at how much conversation TP has sparked. I don't know a thing about the chemicals they sell either...if anyone wants to enlighten me I'd love some advice!
