Well, I have to agree with everyone else here...YOU can do whatever you decide you can do. The salesman is just telling you what he believes to be the truth...and we all know that the truth is very subjective!
So, if you decide to get a diesel pusher you'll learn how to drive it. It's just a matter of getting used to the vehicle you are driving. Paulette Maryland

I went to driving school with my 37 ft Tropi-Cal Class A and now we drive a 40 ft Alfa Seeya Diesel. I have to admit I only drive the freeways and only 10 % of the time, but haven't lately from a arm injury. DH loves to drive anywhere and we actually took it all the way past Cancun this time last year. I was intimidated at first since the dash was totally different but actually it was a smooth ride and easier than the Trop-Cal and most of the gals I know who have the Seeyas do drive them. I have backed it into campsites. DH gives me good directions. My instructor actually said the women were better drivers because they listen and aren't in such a hurry like the guys. Love the automatic levelors! I will admit though if I was alone I would not have the Seeya and would get something around 30-32 ft instead. Salesmen drive me batty and know VERY little about lifestyles in them. They just want to sell them they have never lived in one. Mine is very spacious, Sharon has been in mine.. :) Seeya down the road, Jenny

My two cents on the salesman.....he probably was making comments about women being intimidated by a diesal pusher because He was trying to push another RV that he wanted to sell. I'm sure it was all about his sales commission and not about a women's ability to drive. I believe it would be intimidating to first step into that big rig and you might have some palpitations and white knuckles for the first hour. Then little by little you would gain confidence and in no time would forget the size of it and relax and enjoy. Marysdream Its all good!!!!!

SWA, I agree with all the advice stated above. I have never driven a class a but I think we all feel the same the first time driving a rv. My first time behind the wheel of a rv was driving my class c from Florida to Maryland. Just follow my advice and you will be fine. I talked to myself for 1000 miles and screamed at everyone else on the hwy to get out of my way. :p Just kidding but I did talk to myself. 1999 Georgie Boy Maverick Eastern Shore of Maryland

Shirlv, I'm sure we have done that number.. towing my car down I was ok..until I had to pull in and get gas.. I know I heard my heart beat hard..or should I say.. I was scanning to check where and how.. ..then someone decided to pull in the opposite direction at the same pump.. I just gave the guy a look and sat back and waited till he backed up..cause there was no way I could even... towing 4 wheels down you can't back up unless to unhitch.. and that's another story.. Thing is after the first fill up.. the rest became a lot easier..although I still look to see where at what is the best angle to approach.. So to that Saleman....I hope he's reading.. YOU LOST YOUR SALE..! God Bless Us All !!! Barbzeee Life is full of surprises, just go with the flow !

We've all met salesmen who "talk down to the little lady"... Just gotta fluff them off and buy elsewhere.
However, a little in his defense...haven't we all known women who couldn't pour p___ out of a boot. They are such airheads you wonder how they get out of bed come morning? Maybe his wife/mother IS one of those...and he thinks we all are!!
In my opinion...Any woman who even thinks about handling any kind of RV is NOT in any way that helpless!! Happy Travelin'

Hi SWA, and welcome to our place! I learned to drive in a 38ft HR Endeavor pusher after DH went to walk with the angels. When you sit in the cockpit, it's VERY intimidating, all those switches and gauges and big windshield, and so wide you just know there's not room in the lane! My first trip by myself was 3000 miles to Arkasas and Missouri to visit kids and relatives! Towing a jeep! Through the mountains! I now have a 34ft pusher, just 'cause me and a cat didn't need that big a place. It's a Monaco Knight, 330 Cummins on a Roadmaster chassis, with 2 slides. They're a really nice coach, and not nearly as expensive as the one you drove. I do so much mountain driving, that it's worth the extra money to have a pusher to have the Pac brake, and I feel really safe in it. Just love it! It's actually easier to drive than a gasser, much heavier and better in the wind. Good luck with your search, and I'm sure you'll find the coach you want. You can drive anything out there! Good Roads, Sharon

You ladies amaze me more everyday. I just cannot see me driving one of those rigs! I don't pull our trailer because I CANNOT seem to get the hang of backing up and one can't always go forward! LOL I tried to learn backing up with the boat but I just don't GET IT. I used to be a lot more adventuresome ..now I'm afraid I've fallen into the trap of just letting DH do all the "hard" stuff...PLEASE don't kick me out of the group for admitting that! :8o: You all have my total admiration! :) Jenny, Hubby and 3 Weenies!

PLEASE learn. Take lessons from someone other than your husband - they can be so intimidating! Most of us here have lost our husbands one way or the other. We all had to learn. It was either that or sit in the rocking chair. And I think from reading our posts you know none of us are ready for that chair. It's all in your mind-set. When I was teaching my daughter to drive she kept whimpering, "Oh, this car is so big I'll never be able to drive it." I just looked at her and said, "You would never hear a guy saying that!" She took that steering wheel and drove like a pro! Women are BETTER at backing up than men. We can multi task and have a more delicate touch on the wheel. So get out there and just do it!
