Thought all of you ladies would really enjoy this!! And how very true!
Letter to Pets
Dear Dogs and Cats
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and they contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything larger than a king-sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years; canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!
To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:
Rules for Non-Pet owners who visit & like to complain about our pets:
1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
(that's why they call it "fur"niture)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter
who is short, hairy, walks on all fours & doesn't speak clearly.
Dogs and cats are better than kids...they eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, and don't need a gazillion dollars for college - and if they get pregnant, you can sell the children!
:)
Good Roads,
Sharon

How true. I live with two dogs and 4 cats. My house is a zoo of furry creatures and of course I would never think of giving them away.

I don't know what your source of information is...but as usual...you're right on! This is probably the best one I've seen and I don't even have any 'companions'...However, I agree with all of it. As I am allergic to 'animal hair/fur/dander'...when visiting with friends that have their 4 legged family living with them, I always decline their invitations to spend nights in their 'stick' houses...my home on wheels is where I belong as I am a visitor...not a permanent resident...I think respect for each other and each others companions is of primary importance. Of course I am 'sharing' your post with all my friends who have 'extended' family....Thanks again... :)
Safe & happy travels to you!

I'm definitely posting your letter! I know my dogs can spell, so they can probably read, too! I'll be traveling with my old, very precious, large mixed-breed dog Dune (he's 11 this year and a real beauty - looks like a cross between a greyhound and a pointer) and my 6-year-old recently-adopted Shih-tzu, Higgins (as in Henry Higgins, and my daughter has a cat named Eliza Doolittle - not traveling with me). My dogs are my very best friends. I'm an artist, and my daughter critiques my work; my dogs just love everything I do and say I'm the best!
I have a question: I'll be traveling alone (leaving around March 15) and know my dogs at some point are going to want to go outside when it's dark, and I don't feel safe doing so. How have others worked this? I was thinking about putting a couple of leads by the door and hooking them up and just let them "go" just outside the door, and then I can clean anything up with it's daylight and we go out for our morning walk. Any better suggestions??

I've always just taken a flashlight and walked them, but I was always boondocking in the desert with friends or in a park. I wouldn't think that anyone with ulterior motives would mess with a person with dogs, to much of a chance of either getting bitten or drawing attention with barking. The few times we stayed in a rest area or truck stop, I still walked them, guess I had a false sense of security with DH in the rig, plus they were German Shephards, so that tends to put people off, too. If you stay in a truck stop, put an old pair of large sneakers or boots by your door, and that kind of advertises that there's a Mr. inside. Just do what you feel comfortable doing. Leashes outside the door would work, too. As with any place, take a look around and be aware at all times.
Good Roads,
Sharon

This is hilarious...My very large Hybrids own us, not the other way around...They have definately made this clear, and when we brought the TT home on Tuesday, they howled until we let them check it out...made themselves comfortable on every bed they could find, including couch, bunks, and dinette. Luckily the bedroom has a door! I believe they are just as excited about it as we are.

My dogs are both senior citizens. The one rarely jumps on furniture anymore. The other was never allowed on furniture as he was supposed to be a giant! First day out in the rv, he claimed that when traveling and at bedtime, the sofa is HIS - so I now keep a sheet cover on it for those times!
Yep, they own us.

Laleeda. I use a Flexi Lead..it lets them go out a good distance.. and it's not a problem.. Like I said at night time I'm at a Flying Js or if you're in a rest area.. you don't have to walk them let the lead do it.. you stay in one spot and it's like fishing a dog LOL they have them in various lengths.. check into it.. I park near the area for walking dogs and with my Rotties no one even thinks about coming close..hope this gives you another alternative..
God Bless
