Trying to pass the time between now and 3:45...LOL at all the great info! I am 25, married with a almost 7 year old daughter...2 dogs with pups on the way! We are picking up our 2006 Explorer TT this afternoon... I am completely excited and totally scared that we just took a huge leap into the RV world... But considering that March thru September we spend 90% of our weekends traveling and camping...we decided it was necessary! Luckily we work for my dads Construction company which also allows us to take 2-3 2 week trips a year or my husband would probably wither away! Hoping to learn alot along the way, It's always nice to see good old Amarillo in the the rearview mirror!

Welcome to RVing and this forum!!! Glad to have some nice young ideas around! What a wonderful way for your daughter to learn geography and history!
We seem to discuss dogs a lot here, too....so, what kind of furbabies to you have? Be sure and come back to tell us about the puppies......

Welcome! You'll pick up a lot of info here and these are the nicest, "funnest" ladies!!! Keep coming back and share your camping experiences with your new RV with all of us!!
Your daughter is going to SO enjoy camping in that TT.. We took ours for years, and now one of their favorite subjects to get on is "Remember when"...bringing up the different memories from our camping past!!
Such an education for kids too. One year in Geography, our son could share his being "there" in his camping past.
Camping as a family with children and dogs is a hoot!!!

Picked up the TT brought it home to very excited friends and family... played in it til about midnight. They told us so much stuff, I'm sure we missed something. We would like to get on the road as soon as possible, trying to find someplace to go this time of year that ain't too far away from Amarillo. Let me know if any of you know a good Oklahoma, New Mexico, Or Southern Colorado area that would be nice for a first RV excursion... Our anniversary is tommorow, it would be nice to take off!

Would this be one of your weekender trips or a two week's long one? Is your trailer a "winter protected" one? In other words, are your holding tanks and plumbing enclosed or exposed to the freeze? You have to be careful with freezes.
Glad you enjoyed playing in your new toy till midnight!!
Happy Anniversary tomorrow. :) Happy Travelin'

Right now is NOT the time to go to Colorado Springs, CO. due to winter weather. But, it's an absolutely wonderful place to go, you can spend your whole two weeks right there as there is SO much to see! Here is the website, for all sorts of information.
http://www.experiencecoloradosprings.com/
My first trip I'd go somewhere NEAR home and also NEAR a Wal*mart of a RV supply place,so you can go pick up the things you need to stock your trailer with. Also, closer to home is a big help till you break the trailer in. Let us hope that you never have a moments trouble with it, but sometimes there is the unexpected SMALL water line leak...Or something and would be nice to be near somewhere for "parts".. You probably won't have this problem, but since it's your FIRST trailer and you are inexperienced..it is nice to be near home.
On a first trip from home, you could go to Lubbock. There is a really nice park..Buffalo Springs Lake.

There IS a RV supplier.. Billy Sims Trailer Town. There are probably more, but this is listed in Trailer Life Directory.
Oklahoma City has a LOT to see. Has the oldest Zoo in the Southwest. Go see Bricktown, the tourist area with a mile long waterway with water taxies, with cafes and shops all along the way. The Oklahoma Spirit Trolly System can take you around Bricktown and downtown Oklahoma City for a quarter. website:

Hope this has been a help to you!!! Any detailed questions just PM me, and I'll do my best to help!!

Yes we made sure to have a TT that was for Winter use...Trust me after tent camping in New Mexico last February, this was an important part of the equation for me atleast! We probably won't go on a long trip until mid June, after Tyger gets out of school and I've finished helping with Vacation Bible School at our Church! But until then weekend trips will have to be enough! Barbzeee: I've never been to Santa Fe, everyone tells me it's beautiful! My daughter Tyger went to school and told everyone, that she has a camper and she's going to travel even more now...She's been alot of places with us, and loves every minute of it...My husband is already discussing us making the long trek back up to Yellowstone again this summer. We went 2 years ago, but we just fit it into the middle of a long journey including Amarillo to, Colorado Springs, Denver, Jackson Hole WY,West Yellowstone MT, Meeker, Co, then back home... So it's a must that we return to see what all we missed! Jomlit: Strangely enough, although we live near Lubbock, we have never been to Buffalo Springs Lake, I'm sure after looking at the Bass that were caught there it'll be close to top of the list for my husband! We have actually stayed at the Colorado Springs KOA in a Kabin (my husband calls them dog houses) last summer. I love there Zoo! And last Anniversary we went to OKC... I can't wait to experience these places in the comfort of our on place, it will be a nice change.

Whoops! 'Scuse me, my mistake! I thought you were a newbie to camping.
The first time we went to Buffalo Springs Lake, we left home (near Houston) and I took the trailer, DH was riding his motorcycle on a different route, and we were to meet at that park for a Motorcycle Rally that night. It's about 500 miles from here. When I got near the Park area, it is all flat, farming country with no trees, ...and suddenly there was this "hole" of an oasis. There was the beautiful lake, large trees, some "hills"!! It was just outstanding....AND was the "unexpected"!!! The park was difficult to get the trailer parked. Firstly because although I can pull the trailer around the world frontwards, I don't back up much. Secondly, the park had metal posts on both sides of the parking spaces, put there to protect their water lines, faucets, plumbing, electrical and such, and you had to carefully maneuver in between that tight fit. I was DETERMINED I'd put that trailer in there, and I did! I hooked up the water, electric and sewerage lines. Then, I got me a Coke and walked over to a group of bikers who were not far from my area.
As, I approached...one of them jumped up, gave me a big Howdy Hug and said "Well, LOOK who's here! I watched you come in, but from a distance didn't realize who you were and I thought to myself That little lady is going to be scared to death when motorcyclist by the hundreds come in here all night and all day tomorrow, and she finds she is in the MIDDLE of them!!" ;)
It is such a neat park, and we've been back a few times since!
Though we've come through OKC many times, I didn't know till last week that OKC had a river ride, Bricktown and such. the photo of the boat looks just like the San Antonio Riverwalk area we have been to many times. DH and I WILL Make OKC and all that is available to see and do there a "some day" trip..
LOVE Jackson area!! We worked in Jackson five seasons and went to YNP often. Never got tired of it and we've been back often since we retired for the second time!!
Sounds like you have some traveling/camping plans in mind..and KNOW ya'll will SO enjoy! Can tell your little one is excited!
Enjoy that Trailer!!!
:) Happy Travelin'
