Barb, the panels are mounted on the roof, but they aren't the kind that tip up to catch the sun. I've been in some pretty rough weather, wind and rain, but no hail yet, so that remains to be seen. So far, no problem. I get up there every once in a while and clean them and the satelite. There are also portable ones that you use an alligator clip to attach to your house batteries, very simple to do, and you set them up by your coach. There's a very good web site about solar power, I'll see if I can find it. A company out of AZ. Oh yeah, you also need a controller to make sure your batteries don't overcharge.

Here's the web site for the solar info. Should answer all your questions. Good Luck!

Dick Reeds driving school is wonderful and my hubby even learned a thing or two and he drove buses and tour buses. And gals I will tell you what my instructor told me-Women are better at parking because we LISTEN and TAKE DIRECTIONS better than Men!! He said if we do it wrong it is because the GUY gave us lousey directions not us! Men get too cocky and think they know it all, that is when they put the boo-boos in the RV's. Women are slower and do it much better. I can betcha if you ask anyone with a boo-boo on the rig, the guy did it verus the gal!
I'm back on the Parking crew for the LIFE ON WHEELS Conference in Tucson ( First year there, in March) Sorry gals the classes are full in March but you might get a chance in Moscow Idaho or one of the other places if you want some good RV education.
About solar panels, if I lay mine flat they'll charge but if I tip them up they charge better. I mostly only tipped them in Quartzsite when I was Boondocking there. I'm camped out at Camping World in Bakersfield CA, very noisy with the trucks close. Going to have my generator serviced, I have 258 hrs on it now. Then I will head near Acton CA to the Soledad Canyon Thousand Trails park . I'm pooped, went all over San Francisco yesterday and my body aches now from hiking up and down hills to get to the cool areas like Lombard Street and Coit tower. Found the Mee-Mee Bakery where they make fortune cookies but got there too late for the tour. Took a boat tour under the Golden gate bridge and around Alcatraz. Beautiful day sun was out and had a great photo shoot day. Seeya down the road, Jenny
