Just sitting here reflecting a little. It is 2006 aleady. For the first time in my life, I am starting a new year with nothing I "HAVE" to do---like going to work. This time last year I was counting down the days until retirement (March 1, 2005)!! I'm looking at dates of events I'd like to go to if it works out---it is a strange feeling for me. Also it is strange thinking I'll be 60 this year!!! I can't be THAT old!! LOL I'm still a kid!!!!! I look out the back window at Running Bear and get hitch itch. It is too cold to just go sleep in the rv like I do when it is warmer. I've got a little over two months before I unwinterize. My first trip of 2006 (big trip that is) will be to Louisburg, Ks. in April---can't wait!!! In the mean time, I need to stay home and recoup from last year and the 4200 miles I traveled over Christmas and New Years!!! 2006 is going to be a good year!! Hope to meet some of you on the road!!

This was suppossed to be entitled "2006"---don't know how I got my name in there but apparently, I can't change it now---I tried. Is that error due to the fact I may not be fully awake yet or the fact I'm going to be 60!!! LOL

I dropped in to visit the man from whom I bought my RV. I told him how much I was enjoying it and that I had driven just abut 5000 miles over 4 months. He looked surprised and said, "After I delivered it to you I told my wife, that little old lady will never take it out of the driveway!" Little old lady???? Even though I'm 5"2, 67 and female, I don't see myself as a little old lady! My years plans are to sell off everything and go fulltime in December. Little old lady indeed!

I think the couple that I bought my RV from thought the same thing as I had bought it sight unseen & flew to OK to pick it up. I had never driven or owned a Class C RV and I was petrified to drive it, but I got it home & have put almost 8K miles on it over the past 1-3/4 years. I've just had my birthday and 70 is just a few years away but like Sparkle, I really don't consider myself a 'little old lady'...I'm also 5'2" and healthy. I figure I'll be driving for many years as there is so much to see and do...Might even meet up with Fernie one of these days....Age is a matter of mindset...Some people are 'old' at 40...I believe in that old saying...You're only as old as you feel...so I think I'm pushing 40 instead of 70....Take heart all of you younger women that are traveling and lovin' it...Keep up the good spirit, there are years and years of adventures to experience...enjoy!! Safe & happy travels to you!

:p Sparkle and Excel, I am getting a real kick out of this thread. The only difference between us is that I am 5'7". I had my mh 5 months when I was sideswiped by a semi. The repair shop had a bet going that I would never get behind the wheel again. I went to my 50th high school reunion and they ask me how I could buy a mh at my age. I believe "it isn't over til its over" I told my kid brother (I love saying that)I wanted to learn fly fishing and he said he was so proud when I talk like that. I too have been reading about "young" ladies buying RV's. I am 67 years young, and as soon as I sell my fifth wheel and ford truck, I will be looking for a class "C". You girls are my inspiration. I love what you have to say and I am open for suggestions on what to look for in a class "c". Calicogirl

Calico, I bought a class c for safety. I can drive away without leaving the mh if I feel threatened. It is more expensive and another motor to maintain. I found that Georgie Boy sold their class c section to, I think Coachman. It made the repairs difficult since Georgie Boy dicontinued the class c and Coachman has their own brand. The Maverick is well built and I am happy with it. I might add I have never felt threatened and have a great time. I think we need a reason to get out of bed in the morning, a new adventure, a challenge or hill to climb. It sure beats sitting in the rocking chair. My children worry about me but my grandchildren think I am cool. I hope I am teaching my grandchildren, if you dream it, you can do it. By the way I do not play chicken with semis. ;p 1999 Georgie Boy Maverick Eastern Shore of Maryland

You are all my "heroes"!!! The first rv gtg. I went to, the gal parked next to me was in her 70's, had driven 8-10 hours to get there (York, Pa. to Berlin, Oh)driving a class A and towing. She insisted on doing everything herself. I was in awe of her courage and determination!! I knew that I could do it if she could. She was my first RV hero---now I have lots of them!! Go Girls!!

Fernie, Thank you! It is nice to find someone who doesn't think this gray head has gone around the bend. My first trip with my 15yr old granddaughter, I am getting ready to empty gray and black tanks. Her "ooh, ugh!" Me "I am not asking you to touch it just put your darn foot on the hose while I pull the lever". Second trip with same gd and her cousin, her "come on I will show you how to empty the tanks" lol This should go done as a great what do you remember about your grandmother. "She taught me how to empty the tanks". Times have changed and we are a big part of it. I love it. 1999 Georgie Boy Maverick Eastern Shore of Maryland

One of my worst (& dumbest)experiences with my black tank was after connecting it I then put the hose into the ground dump & couldn't figure out how to put my foot on the hose & reach the release lever on the RV at the same time. Finally, moved quickly pulled the release and ran back to the dump area. Nothing happened. I was dumbfounded. Checked everything and re-checked..couldn't figure out the problem. And of course you say 'Now what?' Anyhow, pulled the hose out of the dump area to see if there was something inside the 'hole' that maybe needed to be opened or??? That's when I saw that I had forgotten to take the cap off of my hose so it could flow into the dump. So now I thought what can I do now as the release is open & closing it won't help....Anyhow, I held the hose up, pulled the cover off & put it into the dump as fast as I could...Wasn't nearly as messy as it could have been, but it was messy. I cleaned the area around the dump and then went in my RV and cleaned myself up. Needless to say I have NEVER forgotten to remove the cap/cover on the hose since. I felt so stupid and so embarrassed...I only hoped no one else was watching, but I'm sure someone was probably laughing and saying how funny that was...I can laugh at it now too but it sure wasn't funny at the time...Just thought I'd share my humiliating experience.... Safe & happy travels to you!
