How have you kept up with your exercises while camping besides walking (a given)? I use the treadmill, weights & tapes at home (still can't seem to shed lbs!) but we are planning on taking trips after we retire early next year for 4-5 months at the time. So have any of you been able to keep up with your weight training, situps, etc? Do you exercise inside or out (getting laughed at because you are bench pressing the picnic table!)? I am really concerned about remaining active after all the hours spent traveling. I would appreciate your input.
Sincerely, Carol Simpson

Hi. I'm a full timer and very much into health. My husband installed a tv in one of the storage bins outside and with it hooked up to the vcr inside I can play my arobic tapes. I do my arobics outside (in shorts and t-shirt) and if people want to laugh that is up to them - at least I will have a healthy heart. So far no one has - they think it is a great idea! My situps and leg kicks I do inside.
So have fun - a lot of people are into health that travel in rvs! you would be surprised.
Enjoy
Linda :)

As a person with diabetes, I need to get all the exercise I can. I have a set of stretching exercises that I was taught at a gym and go through three times daily, and then I - walk, walk, WALK! But then, I prefer campgrounds to RV parks, and if possible, don't stay anywhere that good walking/hiking trails aren't available for my dog and myself.
I also take my bicycle along for places where bikes are allowed as a change from the walking.
It's amazing how much toning and conditioning I get along with the blood sugar control. And I am losing weight, although, as usual, not as quickly as I'd like.
BTW, I always take my digital camera along while either walking or biking. It has provided some rather spectacular memories of the trails my exercise journeys have taken.

My neighbor says I have the strongest biceps and stomach muscles she has ever seen on a man.
She said I was the only man she knew who could balance a 5 pound tray of hamburgers and fries on my stomach without dumping it and my biceps are constantly being exercised by lifting my glass of beer so many times a day.
Explained to her that this only happens during the summer months because my wife goes on a vacation by herself and I have to fend for myself.
During the winter months My wife sits next to me and holds my food tray and beer for me so I don't strain anything important,if you know what I mean.
:p ;) :) :)

My husband and I are3 fulltimers. Right now we are managers of a resort in south Texas. Our park has loads of opportunities for exercise, from jazzercize, yoga, water exdercises in the pool, a gym with treadmills and bikes, and weight machines, as well as a golf course. Just walking from one place to another here since it is a large park will keep you in shape. A lot of the places we have been have organized exercise activities. I don'tr think you will have any problem finding a place for exercise along the way. There is even a bicycle club here, they go on short and long trips every week.

Thanks for posting that website. I have always felt that walking is the best exercise. Especially since doctors recommend it to all there patients after heart aches. Next to walking I like exercising in the pool. Really both of these are easy to do. Another great benefit of walking is you get to meet all the other campers at the campground. During bad weather you can always walk at the mall - just don't shop!

Hi,
If you can't walk or ride a bike outside (the weather-too hot, cold, rainy,)what I do is put on an audio tape and run in place (also jump around, etc.) inside my 32 ft. motorhome. I do it for about a half-hour and sometimes change tapes if the music seems boring. I exercise every day, I'm now walking and practicing flamenco dance every day (I also take flamenco dance lessons once a week). When we camp I usually do more exercise and I am pretty thin because of the exercise. I stay away from foods with trans fats and other fats that are bad. I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies every day and tofu, yougert, some nuts and cakes that I make with applesause from a mix. It all works, I will say that I'm over 55.
Good Luck
Rere

I don't know what you call them, but my husband (who used to take aerobics classes) brought home stretchable rubber or vinyl strips that they used to excercise arm muscles. I think physical therapists use them, too. These bands come in different colors, depending on how much resistance they have. You can tie them around chair legs, or just wrap one end around the palm of your hand, and use them as if you had weights.
