Hey, guys - where is everyone? What are you doing these days?

I'll start off: I attended the FMCA (Family Motorcoach Assn) Octoberfest rally last weekend and had a great time! Didn't know a soul there, but invited myself to sit at a different table for each meal or event and almost every person I asked invited me to sit with them. I got to talk with about a dozen different couples that way. Weather was perfect. New cat, Elsa, not so perfect on the ride over, but once settled she enjoyed sitting by the screen door watching the world go by. It's gonna be interesting traveling anyplace with her!

Weather took a nosedive this Wednesday and we got cold and rain. Got up and flipped my thermostat to heat and - - - - nothing! Furnace wouldn't come on! Well, back in July an energy company came and checked over my furnace/AC system and installed a new (free) motor. The service was free and sponsored by our electric and gas companies. I believe they must have turned something off or disconnected something. So I called them. Gal said she'd check with a tech and call me back. Waited all day. Finally called them back at 3:00. Gal said a tech would be here between 8-10 next morning. Brrrr. Cold night. Skipped my Knit Club next morning and waited. Tech never showed. Called them again. Put on hold AGAIN. Gal finally said a differenet tech would be there betwen 3-5 p.m. He never showed. Too late to call anywhere after 5:00. Another cold night. Got up Friday and it was so cold. Temperature in the house barely gets into the 60's. I was so upset. Cancelled plans for that day, too, and dug out my furnace's manual. There's an 8-step process to turning it on. First step is to disconnect the electrical to the unit. Then be sure gas is off. I don't have a pilot light - electronic ignition. Heck, I don't dare fool around with natural gas! Called the gas company. Told gal the story. Who do I complain to? How do I get my furnace ON?! She never heard of this sponsored program. Put me on hold. Came back and said oh, yes, it was an energy program. I KNOW THAT - HOW DO I GET THE D--- FURNACE ON?!? She asked if I wanted to schedule a tech to come out. YES. First appointment is Oct. 29 - three weeks away! I started to cry. I'm so cold. And frustrated. It was 61 degrees in here. Can't shower. I'm driving down to the clubhouse/pool to use those showers. Even if it warms up outside, it stays very cold inside. Gal wasn't very sympathetic. "There are a lot of people who scheduled early and they are ahead of you". I would have scheduled if I knew the darn thing didn't work!!! Heck, a week ago I was using the A/C! "Well, do you want the appointment or not?" So, I scheduled the appointment. It's nicer out the rest of the week, but still only 65 inside. I figure I'll do a lot of cooking in the oven to warm it up in the evenings. Do a lot of shopping and go to the movies or something on cold days. It bugs me because I just know it's a darn on/off switch or something, but don't want to blow my house up trying to turn it on!

What ever happened to service? The joys of living in a crowded area where they have laid off so many public servants and employees.

If this for 'free' was a governmental agency program, you might consider calling the Public Utilities Commision (PUC). The squeaky wheel works well on some of these cases.

oh my Evie so sorry for your heating issues! sounds like the gtg was great...sometimes we do have to put ourselves out...might not be comfortable but we do it...I know I've met so many great people in just that same way...some that have become such close friends.

what have I been doing??????????? nothing fun spent a lot of time washing and hanging clothes since the dryer was working then the dish washer wasn't working!! so hand washed now they are fixed life is much easier...didn't even get up to the park but once this summer not sure why did go hiking up to a water falls in the GTNP one of my favorite places to go...but haven't been for a long time as I've not felt that I could make it up there...Made it loved it but was sure glad that DD made the decision to pay for tickets to take the boat back rather than walk out... we could have done it but hey the ride was much nicer!

Going to be going to SLC next week end for my youngest daughters baby shower (her first) then sometime the following week if my truck is fixed I'll be going down to SLC for a month then on to Q...and hopfully by then the shut down will be over and I can park just once...

It's been really for fun not a really great summer but have done a lot to help my dd I think...

but am really looking forward to going where it's warmer! and here you are saying how cold you are that's not giving my a lot of hope of heat for the winter

and I do check in her daily but for some reason haven't made any postings ...

need to do better

Good news! When my son found out I was still without a working furnace, he drove down to see what he could do. Turned out to be an emergency shut off switch that cuts off power if the cover isn't on properly. The furnace cover was a tad crooked and when he took it off and put back on - the thermostat kicked in! That's all it was! I knew it was something simple. He stayed over last night with me just to be sure the heat came on this morning - and it did. I cancelled the Gas Co. service call.

Thanks, Dave, etc. for caring. Makes you wonder when local service folks make it so impossible to get something done! I was such a squeaking wheel with the energy company who never returned my calls, made service appointments that were never kept, and even their sponsor, the gas co. wasn't much help. My youngest son is my go-to guy, but I hate to make him drive the 35 miles down here for something the experts should have done! But I sure am grateful he did!

so glad that all is well with the furnace don't you just wish that they would have said

"lets do a trouble shoot check these problem areas" and on like the basic to making sure the cover was on correctly ect... so glad that your son is close enough that he could help out

it's getting cold enough that I can't wait to get to UT it generally is much warmer than here...such a chilly wind today

but here I am whining even if I could time wise can't till the truck is here and I'm so not ready to move on regardless

Hope the truck is ready soon. Ya never know about weather in the fall. One day it's gorgeous swimming weather and the next cold, rain and snow in the higher areas. Safe driving to SLC and enjoy your stay there. Baby showers are always a happy time.

Does that mean you plan to stay at the BLM area again and not the RV park?

Yes I plan on staying on BLM land hopefully where I've been for several years but if someone claims it then guess I'll find another spot...

getting excited to go back down but as well excited to spend time in Salt Lake City with family close by...not that I've not been around family all summer just different kids...
