Took Son #3 and his dog along to a local campground just about 45 min. away. It's a nice old fashioned place with deep sites and very old/tall trees in a canyon surrounded by grassy hills and rocks. I planned to cook our meals on the charcoal grill, eat at the picnic table, take the dog for interesting walks, and sit by a fire in the fire ring every night.

Well, good old Mother Nature had other plans. It was hot, hot, hot. Monday was 107, Tue. almost the same and we pulled out around 8:30 on Wed. and it was already 92! I cooked our hot dogs, hamburgs and pork chops on George, we ate inside with our plates on our laps (no dinette), only got in one walk and both agreed it wasn't worth it (the dog said "thank you, I'd rather sleep in front of the sofa in the A/C) and the fire level was red, so no fire. Too hot anyway. So, all in all, I spent $129 to sit in the RV and read for 3 days! But we enjoyed each other's company. Just a teensy bit crowded in a 26' RV with 2 adults, one 70 lb dog and a ticked of cat! Spike does NOT like to share - and definitely not share her salmon with a DOG! I had to put her food and water up on the bunk. But she's a very adaptable kitty and puts up with a lot.

At least we didn't see any rattlesnakes and we were deep in snake country. They aren't dumb - it was too hot! I did catch my breath a little when a Class C pulled in two sites down just at dusk and let the 2 kids clamor all over the rocks behind the campsites! Looked like perfect snake den territory to me, but all was well. The campground has signs posted all over to beware of snakes!

This is weird came in and posted a reply and it's not here now darn if I know what I said

Glad that you got to spend time with your son and the pets...even though it was hot hot hot that was what it was all for!!! But you just hate it when the weather doesn't cooperate with YOUR plans and makes you have to rethink the whole thing? Whether is rain snow or go figure the sun!!!

And snakes not what I would invite to the picnic anyway so glad you didn't see any...and as to the people I think that they think signs are not for them personally for the other guy yes but not for them... whether nor not it is to tell them no ATV'S or no Fires or beware of the snakes really glad though that they didn't learn the hard way and have to rush one of the kids to the hospital

Sorry you had a hot trip. We have had so much rain that out temperatures have only gone to about 100 but still to hot to camp. Looking forward to some fall weather.

I feel like Sheila, so many people think the signs and rules don't apply to them. What do you mean dogs should be on a leash, surely you don't mean my dog. I have been to too many campgrounds where they turn the kids and dogs loose and start partying. We love animals but I always tried to keep my boys from petting strange animals. One of my sons was bitten by a dog and I had to get the police involved to get the people to come up with the vaccination papers. They were lucky the dog didn't have to be quarantined for 2 weeks. I didn't want to have to go through something like that 500 miles from home.
