Yesterday I attended a Lavender Festival with my Red Hat friends. Wonderful day, perfect weather, even though I wasn't too thrilled about lavender ice cream (at $4 for a very small scoop!) and my lunch of organic mixed garden vegetables turned out to be mainly mixed greens plopped in a box. But the citrus dressing was quite nice. Greens had no taste and I felt like I was grazing in a field! For $7+ I expected a bit more, but there was a wonderful free concert in the center of the pine trees. The Brazilian jazz trio was really good.

There were quite a few vendors set up selling every sort of lavender scented item you can imagine. And craft tables where one could make a bouquet or lavender wand for $5. A very small petting zoo was surrounded by all the kids. That contained a few small goats, one pig, a couple of adorable rabbits and some of those crested chickens that look like they have angora feathers. Everyone was encouraged to stroll through the lavender fields and wander down pathways under olive trees. The festival was held on the grounds of an old resort that was visited in the past by some pretty famous people like Albert Einstein, Wyatt Earp, Irving Berlin and Ernest Hemingway.

I car pooled with 3 friends and on the way home we all agreed that there just might be something to the saying that lavender is soothing to the nerves. We were all quite relaxed and happy. Even though I did wear my purple capri set, it cracked me up to see some of the others with their large red picture hats wandering through the pine and olive groves! And tramping through the lavender fields with all the bees! It sure was easy to run into other Red Hat members as we strolled around! At least 5 others had the same purple capri set I wore! You can tell we all shopped at the same Red Hat store nearby!

No, I didn't buy anything, but we got some great ideas for crafts to make gifts!

Sounds like a fun day-- and relaxing with the lavender as well!

I'd have been disappointed in the meal... I could have eaten grass for NOTHING...hahaha!!

I did enjoy reading all about the day and the events that were there... and I LIKE seeing all the RED hats.

Thank you!

Joella

Where was the lavender festival? I think there is a lavender farm in Santa Inez. My sisters went there a few years ago.

The festival was at Highland Springs Resort in Cherry Valley, CA (north off I-10). The ice cream was lavendar flavored. Don't know how they made it, but since it was white my guess was vanilla ice cream flavored with lavendar oils. They also had lavendar beef brisket, lavendar quinoa salad, lavendar cheesecake, and even lavendar martini. I just didn't like the lavendar taste - gave me a medicinal aftertaste.
