The two most often repairs on RV's are the steps and the TV antenna, due to forgetting them when leaving a campground site. It is wise to refer to a departure checklist. Here's one for trailers.

we started out with a checklist ...........now we basically check each othe we have our set things to do and try to make sure that they do get done....however if I was a more organized person I would use a checklist takes the worry out of the leaving

We're like you, Sheila. Started out with checklist, but now we just check each other. Once we forgot to turn off the water pump and we must have hit a bump to turn, on the kitchen faucet. Luckily I reached down to get something, the floor felt a little damp and I was able to turn it off before it got too bad. Also, one of the bars to our car hitch was forgotten, swung onto the interstate and I noticed our car out the side mirror instead of behind us. We now have a bent bar :). So far, that's the extent of our boo boos. carold

That reminded me last fall we were leaving our dd's all hitched up and I was going to do something and didn't get into the truck heard this lout thump looked over and the hitch was down on this big propane tank....dh had forgotten to put the lock on the hitch who knew that that piece of wire and hook held that much....scary could have been so much worse it didn't hit the truck bed and we were in our dd's big parking lot....and able to fix it easily just cost us a knew propane tank

guess what I now watch very carefully when we are hitching up to make sure that is in the right spot!

Well, I guess I will now admit to doing something really stupid when leaving camp after the 4th of July. We (my sister and I) had done almost everything the night before so we would not have to be all sweaty and snarley the next morning. I just had to lower the jacks and put away the blocks of wood under them. I did a quick visual of the 'front' side of the motorhome and got in and started to drive away and for some reason looked in the rear side view mirror and saw the electric cord stretched out from the post. Good grief. I was more embarrassed than anything else. No damage done except to my pride. I have always done a 'walk around' before pulling away but not this time though. My poor old brain is slipping and it makes a checklist all the more important.

When we get ready to leave... Milt does the exterior chores and I do the interior... Then we like to switch places and check on each others jobs...to see if all is done. Just a little insurance.... Four eyes and two brains are better than one.

We too have been known to be remiss. Once we left the water pump on. The faucet in the trailer jiggled open with moving and water began to run... the faucet opening was over the countertop.... ran off the counter into the door area...and ran out the area under the door. Luckily it didn't get carpet wet anywhere---as it had a ready escape.

We have also left the TV antenna up, but a fellow camper ran out and pointed at the roof as we were leaving, and we put it down.

Doesn't hurt to double check and be safe---- rather than sorry.

Happy RVing!

Joella
