So, I learned that I need to buy RV toilet paper, and I learned that you holding tanks can give false readings and usually that's because some object has covered the sensors, and you can put a bag of ice in the tanks and cover the bottom of the tank with water and drive around so it can sloch around and remove the object. I also learned you can use a 10 or 20 amp fuse to light up your outside lights of your trailer at night. ( We asked the neighbor how do you have all your trailer outside lights on)? That is what he told us. So any more little hints and tricks I need to know. I am ready to camp again, I love it.

How wonderful you are studying and learning things about your trailer's use. Just a hint...It is not necessary to use RV toilet paper. Do a test on your favorite paper you use at home. Put water in a jar. Add a couple of sheets of TP. Cover with lid and agitate a couple of seconds. If the TP begins to disintegrate, it will be fine for your holding tank. We use the same paper we use at home... since we have a septic system and need too use the best kind for it.

One good thing is to use enough water when using toilet paper. I've heard horror stories of people who "dumped" and didn't use water and the mass dried as hard as concrete...and was a royal problem to get rid of. That RV paper is expensive....so surely saves you money not to use it. Common sense tells you that you need water to move it along.

I've read about hooking up exterior lights as "night and security lights"... but we have never done that. I'd like it, I'm sure. Have fun reading, listening and learning..

Happy RVing!

Wow, thanks Joella I was looking at that tp and it is expensive, I will try this test and see if it works. If not may I ask which tp do you use.

The light thing works well and it was nice. You will like it.

Thanks,

Deborah

we use northern used the same test but test your own and see what you like I use the flushable wipes but don't flush them as I haven't tested them...this way I use less paper.... Also they often change the tp so will test the new ones of the old brand usually works...oh yes the sensors rarely work right we've gotten so we know when the tanks are full. While in SLC we got a brochure on a cleaner (people) that will clean the tank no more odor no more sensor not working ect think we will call them when we return in the fall....

We use Scott's. It's a tad more expensive than others...but has larger rolls, they tout 100 sheets per roll. It has septic tank use printed on the packaging. When the kids were home, one of my peeves was too run out of TP. I used to buy Scott's by the case (100) from our local grocer--- he cut me a good price for a case, I saved money, we had plenty of room to store 50 rolls under each bathroom vanity and we were all happy!

Yes, I would love the exterior trailer lights used as decorative ones! I'm a sucker for bling--- our home has two artificial trees either side of the front door, with 100 tiny lights on each ---- and landscape lighting all down the front flower beds as well. They run on timers and are on every morning and every afternoon at dark-thirty. Love them!!

Enjoy your day, happy RVing dreaming/planning!!

About the sensors - went to a seminar on holding tanks in Texas this winter. About 100 people in room. Man asked for a show of hands how many had sensors that worked all the time. Only a handful of hands up in whole room. And lots of laughter. Just learn to know your tanks capacty. I have a MH and I can go about 10 days before I need to dump the black one. When I am on short trip and then going to store her again for a while before the next one I do go ahead and dump though to help reduce odor. The more water you use the better and often if you are having an odor problem it can be resolved immediately just by adding several gallons of water. I carry 6 or 8 empty gallon milk jugs at all times for such things. I thread a small cord thru them and loop it over my shower rod when not in use. Dawn dish detergent also does an excellent job in cleaning the tank. I tried the ice trick too but didn't see much results for the sensors. Non-Rvers really do not understand our endless fascination with the subject of "poo", poor people.
