We left Houston headed for the PD rally and spent our first night in Mineral Wells at the Eagle's Nest RV park. The people were so nice and led us up the hill to a lookout point and pointed out the spot with the best view which we were happy to accept. This was our view.

Ann started getting dinner ready to put on the table.

We were tired so we bedded down earl and sometime during the night I heard Ann yell and then felt two big blasts of wind and heard a noise that made me think the Jeep had broken loose. Looked out the back window and it was still there and attached so I told her that if the wind kept up I would move us away from the edge of the hill. This is how close were. We decided a big tree would have stopped us but we would have been upside down.

Tuesday we headed on and passed through Mineral Wells. I spotted this old hotel which turned out to the Baker. It must have been a beauty in its day but now it is empty, for sale, and such a sad sight. This was the back.

I walked all around taking photos.

This was the entry to the hotel.

I looked inside and was stunned at the elegance.

There were two swimmng pools back to back with a fountain in the middle of one.

There had even been a pent house.

We stopped at a visitors center and this stream as running beside it.

Great pictures. It is really sad to see beautiful old buildings waste away. You would think they could be used for something. I lived in a town where the college got to use some of the old buildings for classes. I used some of them for night classes and the were very convenient to where I worked. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more.

Ann's dinner menu looked simple enough --- wine!!! An easy do!!

That would be a rough awakening--- all that strong wind..and thinking about being upside down in a tree down the hill!!

Oh! The poor Baker --- even in it's decrepit condition, you can see the beauty of the architecture it once had. Very interesting photos!! I hope someone buys it and brings her back to life!!

Thanks for the photos... I enjoyed to the fullest!!

Have a good trip!

Thanks for sharing your travel pictures. Just goes to show that the journey can be just as interesting as the destination. I do want to buy that hotel and renovate it. Anyone got a few million laying around?

Ilove the old buildings too but there are good reasons no one likes to renovates. One is that although we admire their beauty, if we stayed there as a hotel we would want all the modern amenities and it's very expensive to retrofit all tha stuff. Another is all the requirements of modern building codes. Often it is less expensive to start over with new construction than to try to add smoke alarms, sprinklers, updated wiring and heating etc.
