Linda - there would be nothing of interest to a college kid in Los Algodones. It is about 4 square blocks - and in those 4 square blocks there really is nothing other than pharmacies, opticians and dentists. Other than where we ate lunch I didn't even see a bar! Rosarito Beach it isn't! And yes - the drug gangs are pretty busy in most border towns, but this one doesn't really connect with the rest of Mexico - it just sort of IS in Mexico.

When I lived in Mexico in 1966 the only time I ever got sick was eating a water popsicle from a street vendor. I'm not willing to go 'there' again!

In most border towns if you take care of what you want in the daytime hours, it is pretty safe. It's when the night hours come and the vultures come out, and you hang around in bars, and drinking secenerios... that it begins to get chancy.

Of course, the youth are not going down for the same items the Senior citizens are---- they are boozing..some are into drugs in the night hours....and therein lies the danger!!

When we were in Progresso, Mexico in December (down in the Valley of Texas) we saw armed military on every street corner and some of their Military trucks parked at intersections of town. This was in daytime hours. Some get a "wiggley feeling" at that sight--- but didn't bother me. I figure they are there for my protection and safety.

I just LOVE Mexico. Her people are so kind, helpful and giving. They also revere the elderly....and I am fast getting there! Grin.

Enjoy the day! I will!

Happy RVing!

Joella

I love the shrimp and fish tacos at El Paraiso! Along with a good cold beer, can't be beat! I can't believe you guys didn't go into the Green Door! It's quite an experience, not to be missed. Maybe next time.

Wish I could have gone with you that day Paraiso Restaurant is having their 63rd anniversary on Apr 6th. Free plate of food and all the drinks you can drink from 10:00 A.M. to 1P.M. after that you buy your own. Lots of entertainment and the place will be packed with Snobirds!!

The Good-Bye party for the winter visitors is March 20th....free food and free Margaritas, entertainment! I have never seen anything go wrong there in Algodones and I know they have stepped up security the last few years.

I don't like the Asparagus there it's tough. I like my shrimp tacos from Lupita's Shrimp & fish taco stand...they are the best in town, there is always a long line to get some and her Mom makes the biggest Best Tamales!! I have a dentist there and I go to Algodones Optical for my glasses.
