We have two lab/border collie four legged family members. For reasons too numerous to explain, we take care of our neighbors dog, a wonderful Great Pyrenees, Bailey. The owner may have to give her away as they don't have time for her. She's at our house 5 days a week and it would be so easy for her just to stay, but my question is: do many campgrounds limit the amount of dogs/cats/birds/fish/etc?

Some do.

Some limit dogs to 25#.

Some don't allow certain breeds.

Some may even not allow husbands!! hahahaha!

You just gotta shop around for the "allowables" you need.

Happy Travels!

To answer your title question: Sure, it's possible to travel with 3 large dogs! Hope you have a large rig, though. I've seen people walking 3 or more large dogs and always wonder how much walking around room they have in their RVs!

Most parks I've been to allow 2 or 3 dogs. Most don't indicate size, but a lot do restrict breeds like pits, rotties, dobies, and even shepherds. And more and more are charging a fee per dog. Problems for parks arise because some dog owners just won't be responsible pet owners - pick up after their pet, keep them leashed, not let them wander into other campsites, etc. As Joella said, if you intend to do this you will have to do your homework and call ahead. I have a friend who admits to owning 7 dogs. Travels with 3 or 4 (one is huge). And tries to smuggle the 4th one in when the park states 3 allowed. Usually that's the one who pops his head up at the gate! Many places we visit sort of look the other way as long as she obeys the rules.

I have never camped with a dog so don't know anything about that, I just see a lot of people with dogs at campgrounds. I was just wondering what kind of temperment Great Pyrenees have. I have thought about getting one and I don't know anyone that has one. We have had a problem with Coyotes since Hurrican Rita and I would like something to watch our place. We have 2 Border Collies that are trained to work cattle but we don't let them run loose unless they are working. They don't care what's going on unless someone moves a cow. That's all they are interested in.

Martha,

Great Pyranees are wonderful, gentle giants. I read about them online just the other night and I'm not too sure they are used for any type of "security work". Bailey is our neighbors, but is at our house more than theirs. She likes to play, sleep is always in her vocabulary and really hasn't responded to anyone coming to the door...guess she wants to see who it is first, then decide to bark or wag her tail.

She is a 125lb lap dog! They are verrrry stubborn and need obeidence training to establish the pecking order of the house....they can take over if you let them. She used to be left alone for way too many hours in a day, so I just kinda took over. Took her to the dog park today and she really wanted to play but didn't know how. She plays with my dog, Tank, but he is about her size. There is a large rescue for them online, I think they outgrow peoples houses and people want to get rid of them....that or they won't put up with the stubborness!!

If you have any in your area, go talk with the owners.....the puppies are adorable!

All of the above is accurate - I travel with two small dogs and yes, I wonder how you would fit your three in the Airstream and still move! I'm sure for short trips you would manage fine. As dogs need to be leashed or penned outside of the rig, you might consider a big pen - but then again, it might have to be as big as the A/S! Enjoy the furbabies - I'm sure you'll make it work!

I have traveled with all four of mine - three small and one big. Sometimes its a little crowded but usually they all pick their spot and lay down. I have tethers for all four and that is the first thing I put out when we set up. Hook them up and finish my tasks while they look around. Normally I just take two and leave at home but if partner is traveling with me we take them all and a cat or two. More enjoyable than worrying about them in a kennel. Lately I haven't noticied being asked about pets. Only how many people are in the RV.
