He gets better day by day. He is moving better and was even successful at pooping - seems a dumb thing to be happy about, but it was an area of concern since the area where he was injured lies so close to the spinal column and the nerves which control lower body function. I have even cut back on his pain meds and doesn't seem to faze him. I did get the park here to extend my stay til Monday (was scheduled to leave Thurs) so the local vet who was so wonderful can take out his staples first thing Mon a.m. Thanks to all of you for your concern.

Sheila,

I am heading east along the gulf. will stop in Galveston Island, Lafayette, LA an Gautier MS before spending a week at Orange Beach AL. Then a couple days at St Andrews Park in Panama City before heading up to Savannah for another week or so. Then will head to Myrtle Bech and possibly some coastal area of NC. Want to see te Biltmore in Ashville on the way home.. The tail end of the trip is quite flexible at this point.

Galveston is very interesting. I love driving down Seawall Blvd, right along the coast... and looking at the buildings and people on one side, and the Gulf, beaches and incoming waves on the other. Take in the 242-acre Moody Gardens . Part theme park, part educational and rehabilitative facility, part pleasure garden, Moody Gardens is a vacation all by itself. Amidst the profusion of tropical plants gleam three glass pyramids – pink, blue and white – housing a 10-story rainforest, one of the world’s largest aquariums, and an educational Discovery Museum. The complex includes an IMAX 3D, 4D Special FX theater and IMAX Ridefilm theaters; silky-smooth Palm Beach, with white sand and freshwater lagoons; the 19th century style Colonel Paddlewheeler, with one hour narrative cruises (a favorite with birders.
Stroll through the 36-square-block area of downtown Galveston, exploring the enticing shops on The Strand, the waterfront district, and the docks for the cruise lines, and the trendy Postoffice Arts District.
When we have guests, we take them to Galveston and all have enjoyed the ferry between Galveston and Port Bolivar peninsula. The ferry operation consists of five boats, each of which can carry approximately 70 vehicles, 500 passengers and six crewmembers. Each ferry is capable of carrying eight 18-wheel trucks weighing 80,000 pounds each. The 2.7 mile trip takes approximately 18 minutes to cross one of the busiest waterways in the world. Through the Bolivar Roads Channel flows the commerce of the Port of Houston, the nations largest inland port, as well as other Galveston and Trinity Bay communities. Approximately 7,000 ships visit the Port of Houston each year. All of the boats are double-ended with a pilothouse on each end, and the Captain changes from one pilothouse to the other to go in the opposite direction. It is free and run by the state of Texas. There are NO roads from Galveston to Boliver Peninsula. You can park at a large parking lot next to the ferry, and ride across and back. There are many birds -- and chances are high you'll see Dolphins as well.
Just wanted to give you a little info on Galveston, so you'd be tempted to check her out!
How I wish I could join you in Galveston, but can't make it. We have 3 doctor appointments to make this next week. No time for fun plans! You enjoy it for me! Grin..
Happy Travels!
Joella

Hope you have a safe trip.. While Joella gave you a bit of info on Galveston..... When you come through Ms... on your way to Gautier.... Hwy 90 is open.... there are some great sculptures of wild life carved from the stumps of the trees destroyed from the hurricane...the beaches are also nice even though alot of the old homes are gone the beach front is nice... They just lit the light house last night, first time after the hurricane.
