I used to see those hair cutters that worked off the air of a vacuum cleaner to pull the hair up and trim against cutters.

I haven't seen one in a long time, but did a Google Search, and there are lots of different kinds available. Some are quite costly, and I haven't a clue as to how well they work.

Do any of my Forum Sisters have any knowledge of them? Could use some Sister Wisdom here!

I have the one called Flowbee. I liked it enough to replace the one I lost to Rita. My friends like to rib me about my hair cuts sometimes but I don't care. I usually cut my hair with it a couple of times and then get it reshaped. The lady that cuts my hair must wonder what I do to it but she has never said anything.

Oh Martha - that's a great post! Now I am just DYING to see your haircut! I got my last one up at Lenora's in December - um - and then LITERALLY at Lenora's! I wanted a 'weight line' around the back and the darned girl had no clue what I meant. So - she kind of did what she thought I wanted - I went to Lenora's for lunch - Lenora says to me, that isn't what you wanted is it - and I said, well, no. So - she gave me her good scissors and an old t shirt and we had at the back of my hair. I only made one little bald spot - it was pretty funny! Maybe exactly what a GTG is supposed to be. Sisters cutting hair! I made a mess of her bathroom though - little bits of hair all over! And my girls - who had been giving me grief about my hair - didn't even NOTICE! I could have killed them - cheerfully. So yes Martha - now I have to go find pictures of you and check this out! lOL

I think my pictures on the forum are with a "store bought" hair cut. lol I try to get a good one if I'm going somewhere. The flowbee has attachments of different lengths but it's hard to taper the sides and blend it in with the top. I always have my hair short so it's not too noticable.

I have friends who have used one of these for years and wouldn't part with it! They could well afford even the priciest of haircuts, but they say the convenience of doing it whenever they want to and not having to constantly explain to a stylist is priceless. Plus they like how their cuts come out. She does his, he does hers. Looked rather cumbersome to me when I watched, tho.

Years ago I was at a garage sale with my girlfriend and she bought one to use on her husband's hair. They came to my house to try it cause she was too timid to use it by herself the first time. It was cumbersome and I lost patience with it quickly. I ended up getting out my scissors and cutting his hair that way.

Sometimes, the only right answer is silence...which in and of itself speaks a thousand words.

the main trick to getting them to work best is a good vacumm cleaner. shop vac seems to work the best. also cut a little bit at a time and then change the attachment to a shorter one if needed. also keep the blades oiled and they will stay sharp. have had one for about 10 years and it has paid for itself many times over. it still best to go to the shop once in awhile.

Thanks all for the feedback. I think I'm going to get one. If nothing else, will help keep all those tiny bits of hair sucked up and don't have to go out into the winter weather for a cut! I've been cutting DH hair for MANY years..and do it with scissors, but I got to thinking if I got one of these machines --- I could also trim my own. My hair cut is basically 3" long all over the head....tapered at ears and nape of neck.. Shouldn't be too hard!
