I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow. Wanted to get some new glasses and my prescription is almost a year and a half old so thought I might as well get my eyes checked again. I didn't get new lenses the last time I went so my glasses are probably close to 4 years old.

The TV in my office went out tonight so will probably get a new TV. It is only 4 years old but it did take a header off the table several months ago when one of the cats tried to get on top of it. The little darlings are so helpful.

I took a short trip in my motorhome yesterday and the coach batteries quit working. I had put water in them about a week ago and cleaned the posts. I cleaned the posts and wires again and tightened every thing. I hope it was just a bad connection. Have to make sure everything is working before our Texas GTG.

My son and grandson are talking about coming for Thanksgiving but doubt they will. I know I wouldn't be trying to fly on a holiday. My DH would just as soon go out to eat for Thanksgiving but I don't like to do that either. Few places are open and the ones that are open are too crowded. And I like to have leftovers.

Sheila, we once did a Thanksgiving eating out....and like you, I didn't like it and have never done that again.  We had the oldest granddaughter with us--- and were in Branson, MO.  This was years ago, and Branson was not the huge tourist place it is now.  We like to never have found a place to eat out on Thanksgiving, there was only ONE place open---  and the food was bad.  The dressing was really awful.  Dressing is the main item in our family..  I cook a recipe that came down from my maternal grandmother-- and may be even further back than her.

Sue, good you enjoyed your visit with family in Colorado.... and good you flew up, and don't have to drive winter conditions to get home again.  It will be good to see Bob again... know it's been "too long"..  I like and enjoy our Christmas outside decor....but if it were not for Milt wouldn't even put up the  tree inside.  It's not like it is hard to do.  The tree is all decorated and stands, covered in old sheets, in the corner of the garage.  All we have to do is move it in, and plug her in!!  Being the light freak I am --- I do enjoy looking at the lights.  So looking forward to seeing you at the Columbus Rally.

Trudy I guess you don't know the Trudy all we Forum Sisters know, love and enjoy.  You have so many wonderful caring attributes to "bring to the table".... Don't be giving up on yourself!!  Surely happy to hear you are considering beginning bowling and checking into The Blue Thong Society (as in flip flops) to enrich your life with a circle of new friends.  Life is too short to do otherwise.  You go girl...My vote is on you!!

Martha, sounds like you need to get one of those new flat screen TV's and bolt it to the cabinet top as you would in your motorhome to keep your "little darling cats" from using it as a gymnastics springboard!!!  Grin. Hope your son and grandson do make it for Thanksgiving.    I too vote against going out to eat on Thanksgiving-- I don't know what will happen here for Thanksgiving as far as family getting together.   Looking forward to seeing you in Columbus.  Will be SO fun!

Enjoy the day, all!

Happy RVing!

Joella

For years my family used to meet at San Simeon State Park - halfway between LA and SF. My parents would buy two boxed Thanksgiving dinners from the local grocery store - they always had a ham option, and a turkey option. We would get both. We would parcel out everything that needed to be heated and do it all in our trailer ovens and stovetops. We ate dinner on a big picnic table. We were lucky, I don't think it ever rained! This year I'm going to my cousins house in Marin county. She's 85 and recently lost her husband. She has invited my first husband, Ron, so I will go up to stay with him and we'll go over for the day. In some ways it makes me feel as if it's 1974 all over again. I'm sure that's what we did then as well!

And I have two dinner dates this week - with different men! Tonight with Ben, with whom I went kayaking on Sunday, and tomorrow with Mike, the man my first husband's second wife introduced me to. This is a hallmark week! LOL

I think my favorite Thanksgiving was the one where we went to the buffet ! I don't like the whole sit down bit deal meal thing. I hate that someone (or many someone's) take hours and hours to cook and then we all have to cram in at a table and spend the whole meal passing food back and forth, then in no time at all, the same someone's who spent all day cooking have to spend the rest of the day cleaning - I like doing nothing or going to a buffet. I sound like a real Scrouge don't I !!!

I hope the dates go well !! I want to hear about them :D

Trudy, we have the best of both worlds at our family feasts. We have the wonderful homemade cooking and favorite recipes...Someone cooks the turkey and dressing and everyone else brings potluck side dishes. We are VERY informal. We put the food on the cabinet countertop and file through buffet style, filling our plates. We have even been known to serve on paper plates. We sit wherever we can find a place... no work at passing of food... just food, fun and fellowship. I always loved it..

Happy RVing!

Well, since we seem to be sharing Thanksgiving memories, I'll chime in with my rather unorthodox holidays. We often spent the whole day out. First, we HAD to attend the football game at the local high school, usually freezing our butts (this was New England, after all). Then we had reservations at a fancy local hotel or restaurant - sometimes a buffet, sometimes family style. After dinner, we often went to the premier showing of a new movie. There were always a blockbuster or two that were opening on Thanksgiving Day. We would return home in the early evening still stuffed from our dinner and usually discussing the movie.

Did we miss the leftover turkey sandwiches? Sure, but my mother was known to sometimes cook a small turkey the weekend after Thanksgiving so we'd have leftovers! She was a full-time working Mom and this saved her slaving all day cooking a huge meal and she got to enjoy her holiday.
