I am new to this forum. I saw that someone asked a question about Walmarts but I did not see any answers. I also have questions. I read recently a remark about a program that was done on 60 minutes about Walmart parking lots. It was a very general comment but made it sound as though they might not be safe. Does anyone know about that program or about safety at Walmart. My husband and I have stayed at Walmarts quite often and have had no trouble but we usually choose the supercenters which are open 24 hours and have security. I hope someone will be kind enough to comment. Thanks, annie

Annie, Several things I would do if I were to stay in a Wal-Mart lot. Ask the management if I could stay and where should I park. This could prevent a knock on the door in the middle of the night. Some Wal-Marts do not permit parking, some tell you a local ordinance prohibits parking overnight. Some in Fla have informed me that if I park more than an hour I would be ticketed and towed. I got out and did not go back to that Wal-Mart. Do Not put down the leveling jacks, pull out the awning and dont slide the rooms out unless its absolutely necessary. If you have trash put it in your trash container. This may sound crazy to you but I have actually seen all of this even some break out the grill. Ask, get your sleep make a purchase and leave the spot cleaner than you found it. The key is ASK PERMISSION

Annie, To answer the actual question that you asked.... I did not see the 60 minute program that reported on the safety aspect of the Wal-Mart parking lots.
However, I am very interested in knowing what it was all about.. If anyone saw that particular 60 minute show, would you please post it hear for us.
Sorry I did not have the answer Annie, maybe someone will be able to tell us.

Since my original post I have phoned 60 minutes. The only thing someone there was able to tell me was that some bad guys in Texas (I think she called them the Texas 7?)had their getaway car parked in a Walmart parking lot, and that had been mentioned on one of the 60 minutes episodes, so perhaps that is what that other person meant when she said that in a newsletter I read. If that is all it was, I am sure it would be very unlikely that would happen again, so I am not worried about it. I feel they are pretty safe. I appreciate the 2 responses I got. Thanks. annie

Regarding the safety issue of staying at Walmart parking lots, I would suggest that you look at the surrounding area where it is located and always use the Super ones that are open 24 hrs. You will give the appearance of a shopper but stay more on the open. I would also recommend that if you will have bikes that they be lock to the rigs. :8|: http://pages.ivillage.com/workersonthego/
