I saw a thread on this issue from 2002. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue we are having. We have been through 2 in tank fuel pumps now, mechanic is having us clean the tank. My husband is not convinced that is the only issue. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? Thank you in advance!

Angie - I'm going to assume your motorhome has the Ford F53 chassis, with the 460 fuel injected engine. If so, that vintage chassis had a well known fuel pump problem that many of us experienced, usually when driving in hot weather. Over the years the pump was improved, but I'm not familiar with the failure rate of the improved models. It would be interesting to know if your original pump was replaced with a similar model, a rebuilt, or one of the improved models. Good luck. - Dave

Angie,

Dave's reply mentions the Ford chassis. We have a '98 Bounder on the 460 injected chassis. (it's a '97 chassis, Fleetwood did stuff like that). We have had over the years some problems in hot weather with check engine codes related to fuel delivery. We have not had to change the fuel pump, but have taken the precaution in hot weather of trying to keep as much fuel in the tank as possible, the rationale being that more fuel is harder to heat from the road and will not evaporate so easily causing problems in fuel delivery. So far, that has solved our problem. We also try to fill tank early in day when the in-ground fuel tanks are cooler since cooler fuel works better. Hope these tips may help you.
