Due to the problem of truck bed height of the new models, I have looked into replacing our still new looking 1996 Insbruck "entry level" fifth wheel. I still like this one because it is so simple, and it is easy to clean. No plus drapes, couches or carpeting. We don't camp in RV parks and where we do camp we get dirty, and often cannot fit our 5er where we would like to to go.

So here is my wish list for a new 5er:

Short, about 24feet and no more, no plush anything, large fridge and pantry, HUGE battery or two or genset, tub to wash the dog, large enough sinks to do the laundry, big windows, and headroom in front. Oh yes, I would love it to be a 3 season (thermal windows, insulation, heated tanks).

So far, no luck.

Oh, and I want to decorate it myself - no drapes or fancy cloth headboards. Leather hide-a-bed couch and wood chairs with leather seats would be perfect. Recessed lighting would be nice. Still dreaming. I think I have to make my own. A high quality fifth in a short length. I did find some shorties - but they are the cheap ones.

Joybell,

A few years ago I had a brain fart and thought it would be a great idea to buy a motorhome shell with the plumbing in place and furnish it myself. Of course I never followed through but it may be doable. Find a body style you like, dual pain windows, etc. and contact the manufacturer to see if you can buy a stripped body. A few phone calls will tell you. It may be more expensive than buying one and replacing furniture. We did that in the current Endeavor. Didn't like the "J" couch so took it out, put in a recliner and had enough space to add two more cabinets. The match is so close you can't tell it isn't original.

Good luck with your search,

Maybe a toy hauler. When Lib and I were selling RVs, we used an American something or other, fiver as our office at RV shows. Pretty basic, the aft room with the big garage door would be perfect for your dog tub. Try Weekend Warrior.

An update: We have only been able to find one manufacturer, Jayco, that makes a fifth the size we want and we can have it winterized and have a larger fridge put in, and have lino throughout. To have found only one manufacturer of a good quality small 5er is surprising - given that gas prices are so high.
