I'm a duck of a different color. My first 5 years on the road full timing I used a tow dolly and experienced absolutely no problems that seem to plague others. When I finally got a car that could be towed flat footed, I sold the dolly. The investment, in "my" case was nearly the same for all the base plate, tow bar, cords and everything else needed that the tow dolly already had. This is "NOT" counting the investment in a braking system (I invested in a Brake Buddy and I "do" mean invested). The tow dolly I bought had electric brakes so a separate braking system wasn't an issue. All in all I also experienced no problems with towing flat footed either. My opinion is, since both methods of towing are "somewhat" near the same investment, one doesn't fair any better than the other. I full timed for 12 years and covered 45 of the lower 48. I lost track of the miles we covered. It's your money and "your" decision.
