Well, I told myself I would limit my questions to two a day.

it will not be easy but I am going to try. I tend to jump into things with both feet and get all burned out so I am going to pace myself.

The wife and I just purchased a 96 Rexhall Aerbus 30' with the Chev 454. We took it from Yakima, WA to Chelan, WA on our first trip. We pulled a large flatbed trailer with 3 motorcycles on it. The very first grade headed out of town, it started to get hot. I pulled in to the first rest area and cooled it down. After that I ran the heater on the dash at each hill to keep the temp down. It was a 100* day, just to let you know.

The water pump seems to be functioning ok, the electric fan is working.

Any tips on what I could do to help get the heat issue under control? The coolant was 100% antifreeze for some reason. I did drain it and put it at 50/50. Short of a bigger aluminum radiator and stronger fans I am not sure where to start? I know that less restrictive exhaust and things would help as well, but I am hoping there are simpler ways to go that I am missing.

My second question of the day is where do I find my inverter? I would like to see what I can actually run from my batteries while going down the road. The wife and I have one left at home, a 13 year old. It would be nice if he could watch a movie or use the laptop while I am driving to keep himself entertained. He gets car sick reading while moving. I can't figure it out? My old RV didn't have an inverter so we borrowed a portable one to run these things. I was told this one did?

Rocker - I also have an Aerbus ('95 33 ft.) and do a lot of mountain driving in hot weather. Mine has a Ford 460 chassis and installing the Banks exhaust system not only provided lots more power, but also resulted in the engine running cooler. Before I got the Banks system, however, I also struggled with maintaining the engine temp. The first thing to learn is what engine speed results in the lowest temp. My Ford climbs best at 3000 rpm in 2nd gear. 200 rpm faster or slower results in a higher temp. The best engine speed for your 454 would be different than mine. While the Ford chassis has a tach, the Chevy didn't at that time, unless the owner installed one. If yours doesn't have a tach, consider getting one, it makes driving a lot easier and more efficient.

A factory installed inverter wasn't an option when I bought mine. If yours has an aftermarket inverter (Heart, etc.) it's probably installed close to the coach battery. The size of the inverter will determine how much 120v power is available. I can run everything but the air conditioner off my 5500 watt Heart, and the engine alternator is capable of replacing the battery amps as you drive. Good luck. - Dave

Heya! Thanks for replying. I will look into the Tach and I guess I don't have an inverter then, hehe. I had actually thought of adding another alternator that I could engage or disengage like an AC pump to run an inverter.

I will look for a good inverter than and see what I can rustle up.

Although you say the fan is working, did the clutch fan come on? Sounds like you down shifted and everything is going to blow apart. If it didn't come on it needs fixing. Could also have a stuck or need a different thermostat.

My last coach was a 1995 P30 with a 454 and the service manual had a procedure for checking the fan clutch. They said to measure the temp of the AIR coming out of the radiator. I used a metal meat thermometer. I had to drill a small hole in the plastic shroud around the fan so I could get the thermometer between the fan and the radiator.
They said to block the radiator with cardboard and run the engine at about 2000 RPM to get the engine to heat up.
The fan will spin before it's fully engaged, but it's obvious when it engages because of the noise.
It should engage at an air temp between 165'F and 195'F. If it doesn't it should be replaced.
