We're going to give NYC a visit this summer-wondering the best way to do it. I was told I could camp in the Liberty Point Marina/RV Park and take local transportation into the City. Not sure how accessible this place is not how safe it might be? Seems as if there are no other CG's nearby for this purpose. The other thought is to leave the coach far outside the City and drive the car into the city, staying at a local hotel for a few days. I'd be interested in anyone's comments who are more experienced at this place than I am.

we drove into the city a few years ago and stayed in a hotel right on times square. went in on a wednesday and it was not fun. traffic traffic and horns. delivery trucks just stop where ever they are and unload. the hotel parked the car ( where I do not know) and used public transportation until we left sunday morning. traffic was really light sunday morning. other then the traffic wed. we enjoyed the experence, but the next time I think I would stay at Liberty Point. have not seen it, but from what I read it is like a big parking lot, but have not read that it was unsafe for the RV. take plenty of money and have fun.

Have stayed at Liberty without any problems other than getting there. It is in Jersey City, beautiful view of "Our Lady". There is a guard walking his beat so it is pretty safe. As I was approaching the park on a very busy street I knew I had made another wrong turn, but the street turned and there it was. It is also a marina so some interesting boat stuff is going on. Fun to watch comuters running for the "boats" to take them to the "City". They run on time so even though you are a step away they don't wait.

Took a bus tour of the city arranged through the park at a reasonable price.

Don't rely on a GPS to get you there, I did and ended up in uptown or is it downtown Manhattan in a forty footer pulling a car. As I started to go through a tunnel a cop stopped me said I couldn't go through it as I was towing, with a lot of thought he finally got me sorted out.

Although we didn't do it I think the answer would be to take the boat to the island and taxi to your destinations.

Many of the caravans use this park.

You might already be there but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I spent the month of March in NYC, my second deployment there for Superstorm Sandy. I stayed in a hotel at Times Square and worked out of the Federal Courthouse in Brooklyn. I rode the subway everyday to and from my work locations in Brooklyn, Chinatown, Manhatten and the Bronx. I had no need for a car. The transit system in NYC is very efficient, much cleaner than when I was there in the 80s and I only ran into a couple of whackos in my 30 days there. I guess if I were going there in the RV I'd stay in New Jersey and take the Path trains into the city. Transferring from Path to the mTC subway trains is a breeze. Just as an aside, to have a car at my hotel epwas $52 a night for parking. there are several free apps for smart pho pens that help with subway routes and transfers. I used my gps on my iPhone more than once. Coming up out of the subway, it's vey easy to be disoriented and not know which way to go!

Well, we did hit New York...sort of. Because most of the NY landmarks are closed 'till July 4, We stayed at a Walmart in Boonton NJ and drove the car in to Liberty Park, then over to the LP Campground just to see what it was like. Looked like a lot going on down there and that 42 in. high fence around the joint didn't give me the greatest sense of security, of course. But the drive outta there was Loooong and eventful! It was a real ordeal taking the car through Jersey City and I couldn't imagine a 45 ft. MH with tow going through those narrow, traffic-filled streets. No way, Jose!

So IF we ever get outselves up this way again we plan to book a hotel in the City and do the public transport thing around town. I'll tell you one thing....I just can't imagine being born into that area, living my entire life on those streets and becoming an old man without EVER getting the chance to try another part of this great, scenic Country. That ain't living, man! It's no wonder that, given the chance, they ALWAYS vote for the free lunch from Washington.
