We have just joined Coast to Coast Campground Club and I’m looking for a BB & forum for them, so we can find out things about them. But I have not been able to find anything except their web site. Hoping that somebody could help us. Thank you for your time and help. Dan

Can't help you Dan but I'm sorry to say,"I Think" your first mistake was joining CtoC. I hope it works for you but in all the years I have been RVing (over 50) I have not heard many good words about the larger RV Clubs such as C to C , 1000 Trails etc. . I guess it depends on what you are looking for and how deep your pockets are

Why is it that folks jump into something ie: CtoC, New RV, New Car or Truck, and THEN come seeking information on what they just did? The time to find out about something is BEFORE you plunk down your hard earned $$. I can't help you either now Dan. C to C was a bad experience for us when we first started fulltiming. The resort we signed up with went belly up and we lost our investment. So, we have nothing good to say about C to C. There are others who frequent this BB that have had GOOD experience with C to C. Maybe they will see this and jump in here for you.

I just did a quick search via Yahoo and found a number of forums on which there were comments and continuing threads regarding Coast to Coast, so I think you can find information/members willing to discuss their experiences, and perhaps even commentaries on the various parks via Yahoo or Google. Sometimes such threads are not current so check the dates when you start searching.

We were C2C members for a number of years and didn't get much use out of the membership. That's our problem, of course, and others find them cost effective. Our experience was that the parks were not often where we wanted to go, but if you travel specifically to their parks that shouldn't be a problem. When we bought our membership (at an FMCA convention) we had put into the contract that we could terminate our membership at any time just be declaring our desire to do so.

I’m sorry that I left you with the perceptions that we are just buying things with out checking them out first. But I didn’t think you wanted the LONG version of our life on the road. But here goes. We have been full-timing now for five years and loving it. We do move around to different spots in the USA every year. We are members of different RV clubs and we try to use them to our benefit, not theirs. As we move around we will try to stay with the club parks as much as we can. We do not do the circle of parks in the winter months that so many of snow birds do. We will stay in a park for a day or two or a week or two, so we can see the area and then we move on. We bought into a resort 14 years ago, where we own our lot and have a deed for it. We used it when we were working and now for about two months a year in the summer. This resort is affiliated with Coast to Coast. Because this year we will be going to an area that has a lot of C to C parks we thought it would be a good time to see what it’s like. One of the first parks we are going to be at will save us between $50 or $ 60 right away. It will cost us $100.00 to join for the year. So we believe we will get our money back this year and then can decide if it is something we would like to stay with. In the last four year we have averaged less than $10.00 a night on camping. And NO we do not stay at Walmart’s parking lots or dry camp in people’s driveways. It sounds like most of you do not like the RV clubs, but for us it works and we are glad we have them. When I asked for help in finding a BB or forum for them I just wanted to hear what was going on with them and find out about different parks they have. It seems like Yahoo has a group for everyone but them. I thank you for your time in trying to give us some good advice. I guess I will just keep on looking, there has to be one someplace. Thank you again. Dan

Dan - We're not C2C members, but did have a rather unpleasant experience with one. One of our friends is a member and gave us some coupons to use on one of our trips. We found a nice park and checked in with the coupon. We were surprised to discover that the "nice" facilities (landscaped sites, etc.) were for the C2C members of that park and not for C2C members whose "home" park was elsewhere. Those "outsiders" had to park across the street in an area with hookups, but not much more. You might want to discuss where you'll be placed in the parks you visit. Good luck. - Dave

Hi Dan,

Sorry for the disappointment in info from this site. If you had asked that question 8 years ago it would have been a hot topic.

We fultimed for 3 years and bought a resale C to C membership in PineHurst N.C. We used the system to the fullest and loved all the C to C parks. We would use the C to C map and travel 200 miles at a time taking full advantage of our membership. It saved us a lot of money. After we came off the road we hardly ever used the C to C system and sold it last year.

If you are full time and are flexible where you stay it will save you a lot of money.

Our biggest problems were trying to stay in high tourist areas. They were very unfriendly because they really didn't want the business anyway. In it's day they were so full they wanted full price and didn't really want the C to C members. One of the worst was Western Horizons. They were growing so fast they eventually dropped out of the system. When the economy dropped and gas prices went up they were having a hard time filling their parks. Guess who came back to C to C?

You already have a home park so you are way ahead of the game. You stay there enough to make your dues pay for themselves which is why most people don't like C to C. If they have paid a high price for their park and then have to pay yearly dues plus the C to C membership fee and they are not traveling fultime, it really isn't a good deal.

One of the smartest moves I have seen was Dutch who had a cancellation clause put in his contract. If they decided they wanted out they could leave at their discretion. Most people don't realize that if you want out of the yearly dues you have to find someone to sell your park to or you continue paying the dues for life. That put a bad taste in a lot of members mouth.

By the way. There is nothing wrong with over nighting at Walmart,Flying J, etc when you are between parks. It's a great place to stock up on food and goods and usually right off the Hiway for conveince.

I am glad to see there are people still out there fultiming and enjoying the C to C system. it was good for us at the time.

One of the most fun things about the C to C system was while traveling you would meet other members in the system and become good friends and 5 months later you would run into them at other C to C parks, over and over again, sometimes a year later.

I have been a member of this forum since 1997. It was where I learned everything I needed to know about fultiming. We had never owned a motorhome and knew nothing. It was here that I learned about C to C, what kind of motorhome to look for. It paid off well for us.

We have lost a lot of members over the years and the spirit has died from what it used to be. Most of them have been there and done that. The stock market and the fuel prices have taken a lot of the fun out of it for a lot of the contributers. They still chime in every now an then but most have moved on to other things.

I have been posting photo's of our travels for a lot of years on the Photo forum. I figure it gives people a chance to see areas they may never get to see in person or may give them an incentive to make the trip. Go check it out and see all the places we traveled.

Good luck in your travels and maybe you will become an active contributor.

Just thought I would give an update on us using Coast to Coast on our fall trip. We started on our east coast trip the middle of Oct. Staying at Cherry Hill RV Resort outside of DC for a week using C to C and had a good site not stuck in a corner in the middle of no where. Since then we have used C to C four more times and have had no trouble using C to C. They have all been nice resorts with full hook-ups and 50 amp. service. Yes we had heard the scary stories about C to C, but so far it has worked out well for us and we are glad we joined them. It is so very easy to use now. I hope this will help anyone that is wondering if they should join or not. Dan

I was a little perplexed, Dan, when I read your post about Cherry Hill Campground outside of DC--I assume you're referring to the one in College Park, MD. We stay there often, six or seven times a year, while visiting family in the DC area. I was not aware that it is a Coast to Coast affiliate. Turns out it is not--but it was at one time. They still are honoring C to C reservations made before they separated from that system.

I think it is a fine campground and almost any of their many sites work for us; we prefer being in the back as it is a little quieter in terms of noise from the DC Beltway/I-95. For anyone wishing to visit the DC area Cherry Hill is a great place to park the rig, or the tent for that matter. It isn't inexpensive but we think it is worth it.

Hi Dutch, yes I was talking about the Cherry Hill in College Park. They are NOT a C to C park, but they are affiliated with them. It is call a Best Park and they go for $ 15.00 a night instead of the $ 10.00 a night. Which is still a lot better than the $ 50.00 if you don’t use C to C. We were there for a week and saw a lot. The bad thing was the weather was cold and rainy. We also had the cooling unit on the refrig. go out so we had to be around the rig waiting for parts to have it replaced. I know we will be back you just can’t see it all in one trip. Dan
