Hello All...
Special note to John Veach
This is probably old hat for you folks but recently I was advised that I should check my Lift Pump on my ISB engine on Ole Entry Level.. My buddy advises adding a 5-PSIG pressure switch that would advise me via a light and buzzer on my dash if the pressure dropped below 5 PSIG.
I was told that if the lift pump failed or if the fuel flow failed say for fuel filter blockage, then with fuel flow reduced that the Bosch Injector pump would fail due to lack of lubrication, cooling fuel, ect. I then checked with a general mechanic that does a great deal of Dodge/Cummins ISB maintenance. He had an ISB engine that he had replaced the lift pump on about 30-60 days before and the replacement pump had failed. He was swapping the lift pump again as it had failed. He also had a repalacement injector pump for this rig and said that was a fairly common job on the ISB engine..
Obviously when Cummins went to the manifold distributed fuel injector pump system they eleminated this issue.
Perhaps they were preparing for the Low Sulphur content Diesel that was just over the horizon.
