Last week while I was cleaning my coach, I noticed a slight hump in the floor between the bath and bedroom. The only thing I can relate to that is from early last year, in Feb 04 (Presidents' Day weekend), when my water tank under the bed ruptured and flooded the back end of my coach with over 40 gallons of water. I promptly cleaned it up and dried it out over a period of several days and have, till now, not noticed any visible damage. Additionally, I have a little delamination around the fridge and water heater vents on the side, and around one window that leaked during a storm over a year ago. There are no other leaks - I routinely check the plumbing, tanks and all, window and rooftop seals, etc... - big paranoia about water!
Now my insurance company says they need a specific "date of loss" and that "wear and tear over time" is not covered by my policy. The body shop that has my coach says that's BS, but can't suggest any way to get the fix past them...
Any suggestions?? I'm currently insured through the Farmers' Group, and I don't think they know a whole lot about RVs....
Thanks for the help... Gene Dwiggins, San Antonio TX 1994 34' Fourwinds class A 2003 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition

Gene - If your policy was in effect in '04, it sounds to me like they want to hear 2/14/04! BTW - Most RV sub-flooring is particle or wafer board, which will swell up if it gets wet. Good luck. - Dave

Some times a letter from your attorney gets their attention or at least they are now wondering what will you do? Might cost you $100 bucks or so but just might be worth it. Good luck

It's not a response that is EVER popular, but anything that wasn't "sudden and accidental" is likely to be regarded as a maintenence problem by any insurer. Dave Peter's reply will come the closest to satisfying an insurer, but they may come back with a question over why the delay in reporting the loss. Technically, that could get batted around and possibly end up in a denial if they feel that the delay worsened the problem. I've spent my life in the middle of (these) claims as an insurance broker. The repair shop is typically not your best ally in a matter like this. Hasn't your agent been any help guiding this? Gene, We let our motorhome sit out in Hurricane Frances and Hurricane Jeanne in FL in 04. Since we were in a house and selling RVs fulltime, we didn't use the rig all winter. When we got ready to take a short trip to the midwest in May, we noticed some water stains on the interior roof. When we got back from the Indy 500 in early June, I called Progressive. I told them I was sure the hurricane caused the damage and they sent an adjuster out to look. She climbed up on the roof and made some notes, climbed down wrote me a check for 5k and left. I had a new roof put on and left for more years of happy fulltiming with no damage on my roof from those nasty hurricanes. I couldn't give her a specific date of the damage, but could pin it down to between Hurricane Charley in mid August to Hurricane Jeanne at the beginning of October, with Frances sandwiched in between. It wasn't a problem for Progressive. Hope this all turns out for you. (the rest of you can ignore this part!) BTW< We are in Austin til mid February, we need to get together some Sunday.
