I am thinking of buying a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup (manual tran) with the idea of towing it four on the floor behind my motor home. I have towed an old Pontiac I used to have that way, but the last year or two I have used a tow dolly to pull a Plymouth Neon (auto tran) and it is a big hassle. Has anyone out there had experience with the Ranger or similar small PU?--Richard Regards, Richard

Richard, I tow my '95 Ranger auto tranny wth Remco driveshaft disconnect. 30K miles and no problems. I like having the bed of the pickup for our bicycles and other oversize cargo.

I have a 2000 Ranger 3.0, don't tow it but understand that the manual is towable without alteration and the auto trans is towable with the DS disconnect as previously mentioned. Purpose of this note is simply to mention that I am very happy with the Ranger and it does a good job. Ford will certify whether it is towable or not if you need assurance. Also the handbook on the car will state whether or not it is towable for reassurance.

We have been towing our 99 Ranger manual 5 speed with no problems at all. It can be towed 4 on the ground - max is 55 miles per hour - unlimited miles - with no adjustments needed.
Love the convenience and use it the rest of the time as my daily driver. By the way, have never used nor needed a rock guard for it. Not a ding or nick on it from road debri. Best of luck. Georgine (Shadow) 2002 35' Georgie Boy Cruise Master 99 Ranger (toad) 1 husband, 2 dogs

The most recent issue of either Motorhome Magazine or FMCA magazine had an article about towing a manual transmission Ford Ranger ... it talked about towing it as well as driving it ...
I am on the road so do not have the magazine at hand ...

The review of the Ranger was in Motorhome and it was very positive. We towed our 95 Ranger, 5 speed for four years with no problems. It is a great toad.
